Almost exactly where a friend of mine lives.

It uses your IP address. With your IP address it can run a command such as TRACERT, that traces the number of hops between it and your IP address. Somewhere within those hops is your gateway (the server that lets you on the internet) that is probably associated with a registered domain that can further be associated with an address. That address is used to plot your point on the map.
