Carfax: is it worth it?
I'm in the market for a used car and I've read mixed reviews about both Carfax and AutoCheck. Sounds like they're both far from being 100% accurate/reliable. I found a free site that lets you run the VIN and will tell you if the car has ever been reported stolen or totaled. I also plan to have a mechanic do a basic inspection before I buy the car. Should I run a Carfax or AutoCheck report on it as well, or are those companies just profiting off of peoples' fears of getting ripped off?
