Of course we can all name a bunch of our favorite memories, but the challenge is to narrow it down to one that rises above all others.

Here is the biggest one for RICE. 1954 Cotton Bowl. RICE taking it to 'Bama and Tommy Lewis comes off the bench to tackle Dickey Maegle. Officials award Dickey the TD and it is the longest TD run in Cotton Bowl history.

Do tell how the ocean can alter a 30 degree air temp near the coast vs a 30 degree air temp on the plains. The 30 degrees you mention could only be a wavering wind chill factor vs. a constant air temp. Otherwise the ankle deep water you mention is at minimum....slush.

FYI there is only one "ocean" on this planet. Sure its' characteristics vary depending upon which part of the rock it's on. Humans like to give the ONE sea different names around the globe. Scientists agree it is one body of water. Maybe they and climatologists don't hang out?

Psst... the coast keeps the air temperature warmer due to upwelling. You do have a brain and have seen that it's much colder in International Falls, MN., Gunnison, Co., and Truckee, Ca.

It can be 35 degrees at the surface in Chicago... and snow.

It can be 28 degrees on the coast of the Pacific Ocean and just be cold rain.

Fuck it, you can't explain something to someone that still in this day and age lives in the Midwest.

Another good one, from the so-called "Chicken Soup" Cotton Bowl game, where Joe Montana came back from hypothermia to lead ND to a comeback from 22 points down. This is the game-winning TD, along with the extra point (sorry, Rumps).

The play that put us into the Top 25 for the first time

Most memorable in my young life was Charles Woodson against Michigan State in 1997. In fact, may be one of the greatest interceptions of all time given the pure athelticism and the fact that without that pick, Michigan might have lost that game and doesn't go on the Rose Bowl and a shot at the NC. That pick, I think is what put Woodson at the top of the Heisman list.



Second place:
Desmond Howard (twice) (diving TD catches) against Minnesota in 1990 and ND in 1991.

There was no way UofM was going to lose that game. The only offense MSU could muster was a fake field goal.

Terry, I was thinking more of Pat Terrell's break-up of the 2 point play. I think that was recently voted as the top play ever in ND stadium. However, I know people talk all the time about Eric Pennick's 85 yard TD run against USC in '73, Lattner's tackle against Army to preserve the 0-0 tie, and Dick Lynch scoring against OU to end their 47 game winning streak.

Well, not really breaking the rules, but here's MY most memorable play. This is the single greatest hit I think I have ever seen. Quentin Coryatt hit's TCU WR in the facemask with the crown of his helmet. Shattered the facemask, broke the dude's jaw and knocked him the fuck out.

As for the other Ags of my generation, this is probably the most memorable play. Sirr Parker's TD reception int he Big XII championship game in '98 to knock off the #1 KSU team. At the 50 second mark in the vid.

Woodson and Howard's punt returns against Ohio State will always stick out in my mind. Old school fans will probably reference the A.C. catch against Indiana or something even earlier than that but those two returns continue to be the most memorable plays to me since I've been watching Michigan football.

For Michigan haters, I'm sure the blocked field goal against App State and the hail mail against Colorado are fond memories...

Indy, on that massive hit to the facemask by Coryatt, do you recall if a penalty was called?

I'm assuming a crown of the helmet hit to the facemask, knocking the receiver the fuck out, was illegal then.

Not to mention #3 going All Class, with the follow up taunting.

Indy does a great job speaking for himself, so I wont here, but I don't think there was a flag on that. Wasn't against the rules then.

No sweat...I misremembered the game as tends to happen with great games and great plays.

I'll give it up now since some others have already nailed...I posted way back on SCIII, some on the hostboard site, and still more on another related site. That was years and years ago before the "Trolls" seemed to break up into a million little pieces.

I got here by googling the one board looking for a political forum I saw a while back. You guys were the top choice, I clicked, and the first thing I see and Van, Smackie Chan, and some of the older crew's handles here...so I registered and have been mashing submit for a little while now.

As for Howard, dude was a stud, period. Even for a short little shit. Woodson's pick is still my most memorable, but Howard's two TD's I referenced above are close seconds.

There was no foul called on that play. In today's game, there would be 3 personal fouls called on that play.

1. Leading with the crown and helmet to helmet.
2. Taunting by Coryatt for standing over the dude.
3. Unsportsmanlike conduct by #3 for the "bullwhip" on McPhearson lying on the ground.

Back in 1991, we hadn't quite hit the pollitical correctness phase yet. Athletes weren't coddled like they are now. Pussies didn't seap if someone taunted you like they do now. The Detroit Pistons would have been all kicked out of the NBA by today's standards. Back then, if someone taunted you, you make them pay on the field, not with a ref throwing a flag in your vadge like a tampon.

Even though I ha been MIA for months, this Texas play may be it for me. Was not too positive about Texas' roll in the formation of the Big 12 and this was a nice way to set the tone.

I remember that play... amazing call and very ballsy. If I recall right Nebraska was highly ranked and was suppose to blow out Tejas.

I also think "Holmes" was the best high school running back to ever come out of Tejas outside of Earl Campbell and Billy Sims. To this day... I think he was the most talented and was hindered by injuries in his College career.

Yep, the TD on that drive was a near-trap by Kirk "Stone hands" Bowman, a backup TE. THAT was a legit catch, imo...but the McCloskey play was well OOB. In many ways, I think that was the best CFB game I ever witnessed. Truly incredible performances by Curt Warner, Turner Gill, and Todd Blackledge.

Sammy, I was at that game. I was in the south stands, right above the part of the field where the catch in question took place. I was not tall enough at that time to see over the folks in front of me, so I didn't witness the play. Most PSU fans I have heard comment on the play mention that it was close.

What I do know about that game was that it looked like PSU would blow the Tide out. In fact, Paterno thought they already had, and he emptied the bench. Games last 60 minutes, though...and that one pretty much slipped away from us.

Who knows how many game outcomes would be different if replay had been in place in the old days. Two classic PSU wins might have gone another way very easily. When PSU got the shaft in this decade, I always thought about how home-cooking definitely helped a few times in the 80s...and what comes around goes around.

I have long maintained that the bad call on McCloskey's OOB catch was a payback call, though...because on the prior drive, Gill flat-out fumbled at the Nebraska end of the field, and it was ruled down. There is no doubt in my mind that the officials were trying to even the score when they called McCloskey in.

While I did enjoy roll left.....I think I was hoarse for 2 days, this to me was the best play I ever witnessed as a Texas football fan.
