Friday at the wedge

Big surf this past weekend.

At about 1:34 there's a guy on a surfboard ('sup deathwish), another at 3:40. The face of that wave has to be about 4 times his height.

...I body surfed at the wedge back in the early 60's, but not when it was up like that! That's no place to be when the surf is 10-12 it will humble you and slam you into the rocks.

They're saying it was 25 feet (and only a foot or two deep at the bottom).

One guy did get slammed into the jetty and got hisself kilt on Friday (I think it was Friday).

Interesting break...looks like there might be some sort of sand bar that's causing the waves to go from rolling to breaking so quickly at the last second.

Even w/o the jetty there that's gotta be pretty dangerous if it's as shallow as is being said. A couple of those guys going over the falls could have ended up going to the Christopher Reeve card.

It's supposedly the jetty, not a sandbar, that causes the break. The waves roll up against the jetty, and roll back out again into the oncoming swell making for a pretty radical peak in that one spot.

LA starts in Calabasas and runs down the coast to Dana Point then out to Redlands up to San Fernando and back out to Calabasas. All of which is south of Mt. Tam. That's what I know.

Actually, it's south by southeast.

...we're talking "body surfing" and "paddle boarding'at the wedge, no surf boards allowed from what I remember. Some of the crazier death wishers to actually stand on the paddle boards however. Virtually every ride at The Wedge ends in a wipeout. The wave below eating this surfer for lunch is a classic example of "the peak".
