Cash for Clunkers
So we've all had a chance to think about this program now, right?
So, WTF?
$1 billion to encourage individuals to trade-in "clunkers" and purchase new, more fuel-efficient vehicles and hopefully, give a hand to the Big 3.
Instead, we get a program where the eligible vehicles to be turned in and those eligible to purchase run over a 100 each (iirc), where the DoT cannot even track how much is being spent, yet (and won't turn over the data), 6 of 10 replacement vehilces sold are Honda, Toyota, or Hyundai, and the government is needlessly destroying what, more than a hundred thousand vehicles that would otherwise have been circulated thru the used car market.
WTF is wrong with these people?
Lets hope that the Congress cannot cobble together a couple more billion for this boondoggle. What happened to all of the idiots over the last eight years whining about saddling our children and grandchildren with this debt? What? Buying new cars for us today is some generational obligation 15-25 years down the road?
Assholes!

This is a program that could potentially have done some good, as far as getting some of the most polluting cars off the road, but was poorly designed from the beginning.
You can get $2500 for an efficiency improvement of only 7 MPG, $4500 for 13 MPG.
It's popular because it enabled a whole bunch of people to get new rides for under $10K.

I wonder how many Dittoheads have their "clunker's" radio tuned in to El Rushbo while they roll into the local dealership to take advantage of the very program Rush is hating on. Odds are, quite a few.

Just like any good lemming libtard...you fool, that 7mpg gain in fuel efficiency is totally and completely negated by the energy required to destroy the clunkers being turned in and the energy to manufacture the new cars. Not to mention, idiot, that while John Q. purchases a new vehicle with marginally better gas mileage that the clunker he turned in, he's leaving a used car with just as good gas mileage on the lot.BSmack wrote:7 is better than zero. It sure sounds that way.
Obama's trying to jumpstart Detroit. This has nothing to do with right wing fairy tales about tree-hugging environmentalism.
Nobody in your country wants to drive a used car, that's why you all buy luxury items you can't afford.

Nobody in your country wants to drive a used car
Either a "trollism" or super stupid. I know many people who could but do not buy new cars and that does not include folks with low incomes and teenagers. Sadly trashing perfectly good used cars will likely drive up the cost of used cars and their parts. Some who know how to milk the system will buy a "green car" drive it for a couple of months and then sell it at the inflated prices and buy the big SUV or pick up that they really want.
And these morons want to run the health care of the nation ??

FAIL!Obama's trying to jumpstart Detroit.
Didn't say it was, however, this plan was partly sold on the idea of improving gas mileage to a) reduce dependence on foreign oil: and b) reduce the pulltive effects of burning gasoline. This has nothing to do with right wing fairy tales about tree-hugging environmentalism.
FAIL on that, too.
Rather dumb statement.Nobody in your country wants to drive a used car, that's why you all buy luxury items you can't afford.

Temporary shit like this has very little impact. Rather than paying down debt and saving money which are long-term economic impacts, Americans are taking on even more debt. And this program is being paid for with even more government debt.

And only great Americans get fucked 25% or more the minute they drive off the lot in a "new car" ?
Great Americans use their brains and are able to determine that buying a 3 to 5 year old used vehicle FOR CASH is saving them over 40% over the cost of a " new" vehicle. Let some other dumb bastard take the depreciation hit and the subsequent drop in value.
Great Americans then use the savings to keep and maintain a debt free lifestyle, and invest in the economy and their own personal financial health, instead of responding to some gubmint "free money" biscuit that sells them a "new" piece of shit, most likely financed over 5 to 6 years, or more. Yeah...makes perfect sense to me.

Re: Cash for Clunkers
If 4500 bucks puts lots of folks in new cars, thereby "stimulating" the economy, why the fukk not just jack it up a bit so we can all trade our old rides in on new rigs even? I mean that would really do some stimulating, wouldn't it?
last year, for the first time in my life, I actually did break down and buy a new sonata in an attempt to keep the imploding economy going.
Where the fukks my rebate?
Why should I, or should I say, our children finance some fukker's new ride?
Why can't I put it towards a new motorcycle? A new DRZ400 gets better mileage than any hybrid and takes way less energy to produce than a new prius.
What is this going to do to used markets? What will it do to new markets after this expires?
If you seriously look at all these questions, you come to the realization that it is a joke.

When does a "new" piece of shit become a quality used car?
Is it after the baby pukes a few dozen times in the back seat?
Is it after the teenage son spills a few cokes, drops a few McDLTs and wipes his jizz off a few times on the front seat?
Is it after the fender's been replaced but the alignment is never quite right after the wife's little mistake?
Do you look forward to paying out of pocket for a new transmission because the original owner didn't bother with periodic maintenance and there's no warranty on your quality used car?
Yeah...makes perfect sense to me.
Personally I'd prefer to pay cash, or at least 50% down, on a quality new car. That way any shit that ends up under the seat is at least my own shit. I know that the oil gets changed on time. I don't buy expensive cars, but I can afford a new one when I need to. My credit is good enough so that whatever part I do finance is at a decent rate. I'd rather get a new car, maintain it the way it's supposed to be, drive the shit out of it until the warranty runs out and then sell it to a loser like you.
If you look at buying a car whether new or used as an investment, you've lost before you even get started.

Dumbass. To qualify for the "Cash for Clunkers" rebate, you must have an eligible used vehicle that you are willing to trade in for a new, more fuel-efficient vehicle.
