i think you vote for Tommie Frazier. second, on CU boards, they always have Darian Hagan. sometimes Hagan is first.
personally, i think Thomas Lott, Jamelle Holieway, and JC Watts are better than Hagan. but, i homer a bit on this. i think Turner Gill, Tony Rice, and maybe Phil Bradley were better than Hagan.
Switzer says Thomas Lott was the best wishbone QB of all time. who's going to argue with Barry when it comes to option QB's?

This discussion begins and ends with Tommy Frazier. I honestly don't think you can even argue anyone else. There have been a ton of great option QB's, but Frazier tops them all. If you need proof, just watch the UF-Nebraska game and that will convince anyone.

People forget about Charles Thompson because of his off the field issues but man was money when he was on the field.

On results, hard to argue with Frazier.
But Holieway was pure magic. Best I've ever seen.

Don't forget Todd Doxzon and Bobby Utter! And for those that are unfamiliar with them that's a real shame.

Steve Davis is 21-1 with back to back MNC's in 1974 and 1975. and also a Baptist Minister.

Hands down.
One of my all-time favorite players in College Football. So much so, that when I played Pop Warner football as a kid I would wear a bandanna under
my helmet.
.... and can someone feed the fucking hamster some psyllium husk ? This server fucking sucks !

Tony Rice was 24-1 his last two years as a starter, including 2 wins against #1 teams, 2 wins against #2 teams and many more against teams that were some of the strongest any team has seen in a two year stretch. Against #2 USC in 1988, Rice put the team on his back after Holtz sent home the top) and WR on the team.
And Tommie Fraizer. Fuck man, talk about a program changing recruit. Holtz thought he had him locked up. Had he come to ND Holtz would have had another NC or two. And the Bob Davie abortion would have never happened.

Recognizing that this is a subjective list, I'll go with:
1. Thomas Lott
2. Turner Gill
3. J. C. Watts
4. Tommie Frazier
5. Jamiele Holloway
6. Tony Rice
7. Donovan McNabb
8. Darian Hagan
I'll give Rick Mirer an honorable mention, but keep him off the main list due to the fact that what he ran wasn't quite a true option offense (although I might already have bent the rules a bit by including McNabb). Of course, running an option offense you really couldn't go wrong with any of these guys.

I wore a bandanna under my helmet in high school, but for reasons totally unrelated to Lott. My reasons were more practical. Wearing a bandanna kept most of the dirt, and some of the sweat, off my forehead, and made it less likely that zits would develop.

talking with my Dad this AM, he says "It's probably Watts, but he couldn't beat Texas....so, he's off the list. but, he did tell Cheney and Rumsfeld to fuck off so that's almost as good".
Pops is voting pre-injury Holieway or Turner Gill*. and says Eric Mitchell was the most physically gifted at OU but dumb as a stone. Dad is also a big fan of Danny Bradley who he considers criminally underrated in Sooner Lore...and it was sub-par D play that plagued early 80's Sooners and the inability to defend the forward pass (Elway, Hostetler losses in Norman). only SCS will get this: but, i'm pretty sure Bobby Procter's middle name is "Gawddamn Sumbitch Mutherfucker".
*Frazier is out because i think my dad is under the belief that no football actually occurred between 1995 and 1998, Schnellenberger and Blake FYI.

Great topic. Other honorable mentions I can think of that may or may not have been true option QB's
Major Harris
Marques Tuiososopo (Threw for 300 and rushed for 200 in one game)
Michael Bishop
Dee Dowis (Air Force late 80's, was a true option QB)
Terry Baker

Dee Dowis and Beau Morgan were both excellent option QB's at AFA.

For those of you who didn't know this little tid bit, Tommie Frazier was the MVP in 3 consecutive MNC games, never been done before or since, one being a loss against Charlie Ward.
I think that says it all.

Yeah, well Doxzon and Utter combined for at least 5 or 6 wins in their careers, so what's your point??

Can't disagree with that. Well, except for the "loss against Charlie Ward" part. I was unaware Charlie Ward was a team. I thought he was just an anti-semite that played point guard for the Knicks rather poorly?

I vehemently disagree that the 1994 Orange Bowl was a MNC game.

Your point stands, although I don't think Frazier gets the credit he deserves because when he went down, Brooks Barranger (I think that was his name) stepped right in and they didn't miss a beat.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Berringer (RIP) a better passer than runner? Or am I just assuming that because he's white?

Yeah, he threw well, but the dude could run the triple option.

Todd Doxzen? White boy from Omaha, NE who was passed over by Nebraska. Iowa State snapped him up. Dude was sick at the option...and he was white.
That said....Tommie Frazier, then Holloway, then Gill, then Charles Thompson, and then JC Watts. Charles Thompson might have bested them all if he played 4 years.

Berringer had several NFL teams wanting to draft him due to his throwing ability. Kid was accurate as you can get and he had the height, vision, instincts to be a great NFL qb. As an added bonus, he was athletic enough to run the triple option on a team like Nebraska in it's heyday.
I think he would have had Kurt Warner-type success in the NFL. That kid from Kansas was something else. A Christian, an athlete, and an honor roll student. Folks in Nebraska still mourn over his premature departure.

Tommy Frazier not winning the Heisman is one of the biggest jokes in cfb all time. Unbelieveable.

Consider this seconded by the biggest Husker hater on the board. At the risk of offending Lord Tebow, Frazier was not only the best option QB I've ever seen, but the best CFB player, period.

Doxzon could run pretty good but he would make a lot of mistakes. Overall, he was just an average option QB. He did have Troy Davis in the backfield so that helped him. But dude could not throw at all. That was back in the day when I did not hate Iowa State and would actually root for them if they weren't playing Iowa.
