Cover tunes

Post by Dinsdale »

Clones, Trolls, Douchebags In General...

Pick a cover, any cover... preferably one that every single person here isn't familiar with.

I'll go first, since I just heard it for the first time in a while. Used to get the bisexual whores grinding it out at the meth-bar my buddy used to DJ at years ago (some OUTSTANDING talent at that place-btw. Bitches used to do it on the dance floor... I kinda miss those days).

They do an OK Summer Breeze, too.

Now that's a deliberate slander right there. LZ didn't cover EVERYONE. They just covered every american black dude born in the first half of the 20th century.

edit. And a hand full of 19th century brothas.

As for best cover evah?

I don't know about best, but, most improved over original artist would be "I can't stop loving you" Ray Charles.

Not even sure who the original coutry artist was, but, Ray improved it by about a bazillion percent.

Probably the best all around cover artist ever.

For the category of cover that pisses me off the most...

Great White covering Ian Hunters' Once Bitten Twice Shy.

And furthermore, I'm sure there are kids today who never even heard of Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson and think Great White wrote that song... because that's the only version they've ever heard of on the radio. :brad:

The studio version of it's better.... they've got some kick ass sax that chimes in towards the end.

Ian Hunter was better known for his time with Mott the Hoople.

Weird, I had a conversation about that a week ago.

I'd go with Jimmy McGriff covering 'I've got a woman', by Ray Charles. Not that there's anything wrong with the Charles version - but you hear it a thousand times, you don't want to hear it again.

I've got the E.P. on Sue.. I've found Part I - McGriff attacks it at a hundred miles per hour. Shame Part II isn't on, the tempo just accelerates. Brilliant.

The number 1 worst cover in the history of recorded music (or live, for that matter) is Behind Blue Eyes as done by Limp Biskit.

This really isn't open to serious debate. It is that bad. And I've heard bad before. Britney doing satisfaction was quite horrific, but, not on the same level of sukk as biskit.

Dins,
I've always liked the Replicants' version of "Cinnamon Girl" a little better than TON's...

It's a pretty solid album all around, with a great version of "Just What I Needed"...

...and Maynard stepping in on vocals for "Silly Love Songs."

"Keys, woman!"

there was a brief magazine put out by the Beastie Boys called Grand Royal.

in the second issue, you got a floppy 7" record of Biz Markie singing Benny and the Jets originally by Elton John.

That is a pretty fucking cool cover. Nice.

Have you heard the Oak Ridge Boys cover that song? It's interesting to say the least.
