Quack, Quack...
Blount looks sloooow...
...and Masoli
doesn't look like a passer.
I was right when I called this Oregon team.. overrated, a few months ago.
You can't lose 15 starters and be that good.

Looks like Phil Steele may have called it right on Oregon.
Props to the Broncos, they should be farther ahead than they are.

Oregon's O-line is extremely weak.
And the D-line for Oregon isn't much better.
Looks like I was right in predicting Oregon being VERY overrated...
Oregon is an abomination (as I predicted just 3 months ago)...yet, will sneak this one out.

It's hard to decide between steaks and burgers. Hey troof, just make sure you have my big turkey leg cooked up if I decide to go to the Ren Fair.

Florida is better than Boise. Beyond them, there isn't a single team in the SEC that you can say is clearly better than Boise. That's not to say they couldn't win, but there isn't a single team you can look at and say they're head and shoulders better than Boise. Most of the teams in the 2009 SEC are also-rans riding on name recognition and little substance. LSU? Auburn? Tennessee? Pfffft, please. I'll take Boise and whatever points they're throwing down. Georgia? Boise. Bama? Yep, I'll take Boise.

I have no illusions that Boise could compete week in week out in a conference like the SEC and enjoy the kind of success they have right now.....the teams in the conference are just too big, too fast, and too deep....that said, on any given day Boise State could give most of the SEC teams all they want and a little bit more....

Boise St wouldn't get "destroyed" in the other conferences. Would they go undefeated? Unlikely. But losing 4-5 games in conference alone? I just don't see it. Peterson has teams focused and prepared to play anybody.

yeah, Boise would win the Big XII North most of the last 5 years. CU fans around here used to enjoy a Boise W, now i think they realize the real playbook is Peterson.

Completely agree with Felix, Sam and Jsc.
Felix's point: On any given day, Boise could compete with anybody, especially if it's on the blue turf.
Not so sure though that they carry their act into Beaver Stadium, in front of a white out. Like to see them play in The Swamp, or The Horseshoe, or Memorial Stadium in Oklahoma.
Pretty sure things go a little differently, then.
Sam's point: Stick Boise in a real conference, they couldn't do it every week, and they don't go 64-2 at home, having only played one ranked team ever - Oregon, last night - during that streak. Boise doesn't go undefeated in any BCS conference, besides maybe the Big East.
I don't agree they lose 4-5 games though, if they're in the SEC. More like 2-3. Boise is better than teams like Tennessee and Arkansas, and if they also load up on OOC creampuffs they're only going to lose a couple-few per year.
Jsc's point: With their schedule, they don't deserve a BCS bowl. I don't care that they beat OU. Any BCS bowl team should have to get up more than one time per year, for their bowl game. With their schedule, they don't deserve a BCS bowl. There isn't a really good team in the nation who shouldn't go undedeated with Boise's schedule. Boise's one game on their schedule was a home game, in their season opener, on a Thursday Night ESPN Game, against the - debatably - third best team in the Pac 10. After that, every team they play is a 20+ point dog to any of the real BCS bowl teams, short of somebody like a four loss ACC winner.
Their schedule is no tougher than Ball St's was last year, and Ball St didn't deserve to go to a BCS bowl, even before they finally lost.

Yeah, it's the losing 4-5 games thing I take issue with, not all that other stuff which I find pretty reasonable.
South Carolina, Vandy, Tennessee, LSU...those were all 4-5 loss SEC teams last year and I'm pretty confident Boise would wipe the floor with any of them. Even on a week to week basis.

the attitude of Boise State has changed significantly over the last couple of years...if you remember the Georgia debacle of a couple of years ago, that's when BSU was still intimidated by big time programs....those days are long gone, they're not afraid of anybody anymore....insofar as their schedule, hey you play the hand your dealt and the fact they reside in a shitty conference is their biggest black mark.....
fuck, I wish the fucking Mountain West would have taken the Broncos when they expanded the league a couple of years ago.....Utah, TCU, BYU, and Boise State would have made for a pretty decent conference....it would have made the conference better and given Boise State a little more credibility.....maybe the next time around the Mountain West won't make that mistake again.....
trust me, every BSU fan wants to eject from the WAC....we're tired of the patsies that are the bottom feeders of the Western Athletic Conference....still, Reno, Fresno and LA Tech are pretty decent teams...at least on paper.....

They wouldn't go undefeated in the Big East. Pitt, Rutgers, USF, and WVU have good enough defenses this season to be be able to beat Boise State.

No, they're not. Even on paper they're three TD+ dogs to any really good team.
Nevada is a two TD dog to a barely .500
Notre Dame team, and La Tech would be an ever bigger dog.
Boise needs to get the fuck outta the WAC. At this point they need to beg, borrow or steal their way into the MWC, which is where they obviously belong. They're clearly way too good for the WAC, and you're right, a conference with Utah, Boise St, TCU and BYU is a decent conference, with some good natural rivalries too.

I said "maybe." Yeah, these teams have enough to beat Boise on any given day, but would they actually do it?
I don't know. I do know though that Boise would be favored over every one of them, and most years they would beat the tar out of lowly Rutgers.
Boise would stand a decent chance of running the table in the Big East. They'd also have a shot in the ACC.
They'd have no chance of running the table in the other four BCS conferences, not unless they somehow skipped both Ohio St and Penn St in the Big 10.
Boise St looked mediocre last night. They were just fortunate that Oregon was downright horrible.

take it up with the MWC commish.....that's pretty much what BSU did yet it fell on deaf ears.....
reno is better than you think, I've watched them a lot and Kaepernick is a dangerous guy, not so much with the pass but with his feet....when they get that "pistol" offense rolling, they can score a lot of points in a hurry...they're not Hawaii, and they'll give ND a game

Thier good fortune was in having a meh Oregon team be their opponent for their 'big game', in a season opener, at home. Their good fortune was in having Oregon play horribly.
Oregon is obviously better than they showed last night. Not that it matters, since they have to show up when the game is played, but Oregon just looked awful last night, and they're not that bad.
The way Boise played last night, considering it was at home, and it was their Super Bowl, they would've gotten whacked by a good number of teams.
Oregon was downright awful, but Boise was not impressive either.

No, they're not. They're Reno. They have no depth, and their decent little QB would get buried under an avalanche were Reno to play a good SEC D, or USC's, or...or...etc.
Reno is good, against WAC competition; both literally and figuratively.

well yeah, and USC would get fucking hammered by the New England Patriots.....speculation of what might or might not happen that isn't going to happen in the foreseeable future could go on ad nauseam....Notre Dame might or might not be a decent team (lots of people saying they'll be much better, while others say they'll suck monkey testes), but Reno should give ND a game
hey, I'll be back and may end up eating my words (which wouldn't be the first time), but I think I can honestly say I know Nevada a lot better than you do and I think they might surprise you.....

They won't have an opportunity to surprise me. How could they? They play in the WAC. No matter what they do, I won't care, and I won't be impressed or surprised, because of who they're playing.
Sure, they could beat Notre Dame, and I still won't be impressed. That would merely tell me ND is still the same garbage team which could barely manage a 1st down against USC.
If they beat Mizzou, same deal. I already expect Mizzou to go back to sucking again this season, and losing to Nevada would merely tell me I was right.
Okay, check that. There is one way Nevada could surprise me. If they beat Boise St, that would surprise me. Short of that, they will not have a single opportunity to impress me this year, much less surprise me.

Correct, in spirit. However, I didn't say they "wouldn't be worthy of anything." I said I wouldn't be surprised, or impressed.
If Nevada goes into South Bend and pummels ND then ND still sucks. That's what such a result would lead any reasonable person to believe. ND nearly lost to SD State, and they did lose to Syracuse and Navy. In their rivalry game, i.e., their true barometer game, they've scored 3 points in two games, losing by a combined score of something like 972-3.
Now they get pummeled by a meh WAC team, at home, in a season opener of the most crucial season of Charlie's career there?
Beating Nevada is a must-win game for Weis. If he blows that one, yeah, color me unimpressed.
Colorado St? That's supposed to be some sort of barometer game?
That's the beatdown game USC had to apologize for, a couple years back. No, I won't be giving Nevada
any serious respect for beating
Colorado freaking St.
Missouri? Make it two seasons ago, okay, then you'd have Nevada beating a top 10 team.
This year? Missouri will blow goats. They never have any D, and now they've lost their three main weapons on O. Missouri is going to suck, and the game's in Reno.
Win or lose, no soup for Nevada there, either.
Boise St...that's Nevada's
only opportunity to impress or surprise, this season.

Is this your shot at me because I made just such an insane statement about how Iowa improved throughout the season last year? I know, teams don't improve. Silly me.
I sure hope Iowa scores a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage tomorrow or I'll be worried because I know they can't possibly improve after that play.
