what i dont like about cfb

I'm about 30 minutes from The IC as we get set to tailgate for our opener against Northern Iowa and got to thinking- I'm just not that pumped up. No, it's not the fact that we left at 5:15 in the morning and I'm tired. It's more the fact that I just can't bring myself to get excited to play a 1-AA team, albeit one of the best in the nation. Or maybe it's the disappointing baseball season my Royals have had that makes me wish we could just have a redo and go back to April and start over. But it is weird because we usually play a pathetic opener and the Royals always suck. So I can't quite put my finger on why I'm not as fired up for the game as I normally am at this time. I'm usually bouncing off the walls right now. Heck, in drive-thru at Micky D's this morning some folks behind us were yelling real loud "Go Hawks" when they saw our Hawkeye crap all over our car and I didn't even care to yell back. Instead, I just kinda stuck my hand out the window and gave them a thumbs up. Weird. That's not how I would normally react. Maybe I just need to get to the stadium and see the team run onto the field and hear our shitty band play their gay shit. I got a feeling that will do the trick. The bottle of Jack we brought sure as fuck isn't gonna get me pumped because it's 7 in the fucking morning and I'm not touching that shit this early- especially considering this Micky D's is making its way through my system right now (why do so many people eat that shit? No wonder there's so many fat people in this country). As I'm typing this, my older brother and his wife just passed by and gave me the "Go Hawks" signal- or maybe that was a "Hail Hitler". Fuck, I dunno. What I do know is I can't wait to get to my seats at Kinnick because I got a feeling it will get me pumped up and ready for another fun season of Hawkeye football. So here's to a great year of football, and a 10 win season for the Hawkeyes. And remember, win or lose we still booze!! GO HAWKS!!

heh, what is the "Go Hawks" signal? one of my best buddies from college grew up in Iowa City. Big Hawk fan. much like me, he didn't really jive with the whole Vandy football scene since there wasn't one. we had a mutual respect for being 1. college football town townies and 2. fans of real programs.
what i don't like is my team isn't playing for about 12 hours. i'm ready.

It's not really a "signal". Its more of a "hey that car is filled with Hawkeye fans, let's stick our hand out the window and yell 'go hawks'". Nothing unique to Iowa fans. The part that really sucks about this game is I won't be able to come away knowing much about the team. If we blow them out by 50, what does that prove? If it's closer than expected, it still doesn't prove anything because we almost never play well in the season opener. Half the time this team doesn't even seem to wake up until the 3rd quarter in the 1st game. And many times we've thought "wow, this is going to be a long year" after the opener and then went on to a good season. Heck, in 2002 I said after the opener we wouldn't make a bowl game and we ended up winning 11 games. So this is pretty much a pointless game. Nothing good can come of it.

that ain't the way to look at it. you guys aren't going to win the NC, enjoy the atmosphere and milk-fed, push-up bra honeys wearing French's hot-dog mustard color.

MSU plays Montana St, but I'm excited to see how the young guys play. New qb and new RBs. I'm also looking forward to WMU/Mich, Bama/Va Tech, ND/Nevada...I just love cfb.

Bwaaa. If you're Iowa fan in the Chicago area (and there's a lot of them) you're definitely pissed as the Big Ten Network is airing the Purdue game on two overflow channels when one of them *should* be this Iowa debacle.

Losing at home to a D1-AA team, in our season opener. That'd be one thing I don't like about cfb.

Mighty impressive there, Iowa.
That's okay though, 'cause by the end of the year they - and they alone- will have improved.

How do you get up for a game with a D1AA/FCS school?
Currently, they are the best team in the state........

Way to pull it out Iowa.
Block FG on the last play and win by 1.

UNI is a perennial 1-AA power. They're a good team. We finished in the top 10 3 straight years and if you saw our first game each of those years you would have thought we were a terrible team. I'm sure Iowa fans are melting down right now, but not me. I've learned to not worry too much after a poor performance in the opener. Anyone that follows Iowa would know this by now. This team will be just fine. Funny how everyone is melting down about Iowa instead of giving UNI props for playing a damn good game. They came into a tough environment and shut the crowd up early and often.

Enough said. Well that and they were playing AT Iowa. Iowa should drop in the polls.
