I hate to disappoint you T in C, but the Nobel "Peace Prize" has lost any relevancy a long time ago. This simply confirms that.
[addendum]The deadline for nominations for this year's Nobel Peace Prize was February 1. So that means that Obama's award was based on what he had accomplished through about the first ten days of his presidency.[/addendum]

Was it when the Nobel Peace Cmte gave it to Carter, Arafat, El Baradei???
What a joke this is. The only notable thing this guy has done is go overseas on an international apology tour trashing the US. Perhaps that was the idea?

No, it's always been a joke. How about Charles Gates Dawes, Aristide Briand, and Sir Austen Chamberlain for the Locarno Treaty basically selling out Eastern Europe to Germany? Or Nicholas Murray Butler, Briand and Gustav Stresmann For the Kellogg–Briand Pact which pretty much outlawed war (that worked really well). And the biggest joke of all, Tommy (call me Woodrow) Wilson for prolonging WWI by dragging the U.S. into it when it was a a standstill (after running on a peace platform, of course) and then insuring WWII eventually happens by helping to force crippling draconian reparations on Germany?
Oh, and if laughing at anyone who gives a shit about this Nobel honor is considered melting, then congratulations. Glad to bring some sunshine into your day. Losers.

That alone should have clinched it. The fact that he's not ACTING like George Bush also has a lot to do with it.

So can anybody answer the question? What did he actually do those first 10 days in office to win the award? Not a speech he gave or what he intends to do. What did he actually do to win the award? No one can answer that.

To be fair, the deadline for nominations may have only included the first ten days he was in office but the actual selection process undoubtedly encompassed most of the rest of the year.
Had he nuked Iran in, say, July, he probably wouldn't have won the damn thing.
Probably. Whenever there's pie and unicorn giggles involved, one never knows.

I have a serious questionfor Terry:
Do you really believe anyone here is at all surprised or (with the exception of his cult followers) gives a flying fuck?
I thought you were smarter (compared to the other left-wing tools here) than that. Disappointing.

The "Question" cannot be answered. Even the Nobel Cmte acknowledged that the prize was awarded on the basis of mere "effort" rather than achievement.
Additionally, recall that the Nobel Cmte also gave Carter the award a few years back as simply a way to condemn the Bush administration. I think the words were something like a "kick to the leg".
Even liberal Richard Cohen is mocking this in todays WaPo.

You know...I wonder why Terry, Bri, and other liberal tards are worried about this pissing conservatives off. I mean, doesn't this award to Obama really piss off people who have achieved something and those people who are imprisoned by Obama's pals in say Venezuela and the mullahs in Iran that Obama keeps reaching out to?
No?

Have to say this and I voted for the guy. Nine months in office is far too early for this type of recognition. Many things have yet to be proven. I read earlier on CNN: "Now he has to earn this." OK, tomorrow evening let's go ahead and award the Heisman with the same expectations.

Perusing this thread, I see no evidence of any meltdowns. I guess these days merely commenting on something when prompted to do so = meltdown.

Rather, they're nimrods just like the Nobel Cmte and Obama's cult followers.

Considering that most of the so-called experts were surprised? I'd say so.
And I'll go on record as saying that I am surprised. As Bri stated, he got the Nobel Peace Prize for not acting like W. Imho, that falls closer to what I would consider acceptable minimum standards for a President than to Nobel Peace Prize material. Yet another example of how far Bush has lowered the bar, I guess.
or (with the exception of his cult followers) gives a flying fuck?
Obama has cult followers? In here? Point them out to me.
There's a world of difference between the treatment Obama gets in here and the treatment Bush got in here. And it's not to Obama's advantage.

They gave it to Carter to poke Bush in the eye. Wouldn't be surprising if they gave it to Obama for simply not being Bush. Remember, everything is politics for the left. That's why todays headline about Obama's newest ambassador appointee is about the guy being gay.
The funny thing is, though, despite Obama's lies during the campaign, the US continues to operate Gitmo, use rendition, and prefers to kill terrorists rather than prosecute them.
And, probably to the cmte's satisfaction, Obama is best pals with Chavez and continues to support the dictatorial but yet constitutionally-removed former Pres of Honduras.

Python, I never said Obama deserved the award. At least not yet.
He is, however, a quantum leap improvement over Bush in every possible sense. Not that that necessarily says a lot.

Uh, Terry, seriously, how is Obama different than Bush re: foreign policy?
Iran - just like Bush Obama is engaged with multilateral diplomacy.
North Korea - has Obama even been active here following Bush's six-party talks?
Afghanistan - Obama has continued with the war and multilateral international coalition there.
Iraq - continued Bush's war.
Um, how exactly is Obama being different? The international apology toyur trashing you and I? Talk, talk, talk about Iran, climate change and doing nothing?
Well?

Bush was a cowboy. It was his way or the highway. To him, diplomacy was, alternately, a sign of weakness or a reward to be bestowed only upon our allies.
Say what you will about Obama, none of that applies to him.

That's all he does have. No rational person could look at him as anything but somewhere between vile and useless.
There's a world of difference between the treatment Obama gets in here and the treatment Bush got in here.
Yeah. Bush was constantly smeared and lied about. Obama is treated as if he wasn't a useless empty suit.
Bush was a cowboy. It was his way or the highway. To him, diplomacy was, alternately, a sign of weakness or a reward to be bestowed only upon our allies.

False. The 'prize' is a worthless piece of crap, he totally deserves it.

Terry, thanks for revealing that you have no clue what you're talking about.
From Afghanistan to Iraq to Iran to North Korea Bush engaged in diplomacy you ignorant fool. Whether initiating the six-party talks that included China for the first time to deal with the Norks or the Big Three of England, France, and Germany to handle Iran, Bush pursued diplomacy.
Meanwhile, Obama refuses to meet with the Dalai Lama and gets nothing from the ChiComs in return. He sends a Happy New Year msg to the mullahs in Iran and then we find out they've got a second nuke facility. As well, he's selling out allies in Eastern Europe to cave to the Russians.
Now I get it...you, like the Nobel Cmte share Obama's opinion that the US is the root of all problems and that American exceptionalism is really a disease that must be treated by global apology tours and caving to China, Iran, and the Russians.

So what you're saying is that Bush couldn't engage in diplomacy because, with him as Commander-in-Chief, we didn't have a credible threat of force? Bush talked like Dirty Harry but acted like Barney Fife (a line originally uttered about the father, but even more appropos to the son, much like "born on third and thinks he hit a triple.")
Please point out (in specific detail) the alleged diplomatic opportunities that the Bush administration missed out on.
For starters, pissing off France and Germany over Iraq.
