1. don't buy it.

2. if Iowa isn't playing, i don't think the nation's imagination has been captured.

who fucking cares anymore? "new year's day" game doesn't mean dick. it's the 2nd place day, at best.

i watch the games, and i like the football.....but it doesn't add up to any kind majestic whole interpretation of reality or hierarchy.

fuck the college presidents and their fake commitment to academics (they don't give a shit, they want money or perception, trust me)

4 teams playoff that starts new years eve/day. final game a week after. just the same. nobody misses class, bullshit excuse anyway.

Is there anybody who sucks balls with more absolute relish than you do?

Most national appeal?
Most anticipated?

By what measure?
Who cares (besides you of course)?

This guy is such a fucking idiot he contradicts himself more than once in that worthless piece of drivel.

Wow, "here it is in print". Lord help me I'm comin' home.
Of course it mentions LSU in a positive take, so it must be worthwhile.
Geezuzkreistalmighty, get a life already.

The PSU homer board I frequent has been buzzing - lots of folks crying that PSU was "slighted" when Iowa was chosen for a BCS slot. That is simply ridiculous...and it has sort of tempered my enthsiasm so far, but yes, I am getting excited about this matchup.

And you, JSC_SEC...you've gotta be absolutely thrilled - so many SEC teams in the bowls! It's the most wonderful time...of the year.

Good god. Does that abomination represent the overall quality of writing at Bleacher Report? It reads like a fucking undergrad essay.

When you see a team who is 7-5, and went 3-5 in conference playing New years day, you know the system is fucking garbage.

At least the FSU shit is sort of acceptable, 3-5 isn't.

How about the Whore known as Big12,,,,errr,,,,,SWC Part Deaux taking more bowl money, to allow the Bowls to dictate who goes, not the conference. What a shit conference the Big12 is. Horrible TV contract, Horrible Bowl affiliations, etc.

You want a bigger TV contract for the Big XII then there is a way to do it. Sadly the Big XII is lacking in large TV markets. Dump Iowa St and bring in TCU. trade out Ames for DFW. Dump Baylor and bring in ??? TV markets aren't the end all be all but they are the start for the negotiations.

As for the Bowls dictating who goes where that is always a moving target. Right now it favors the bowls, but it will swing back and someone will complain. Don't be upset about Mizzou playing in Houston. That is a huge recruiting area for them and there will be a ton of Texas players playing in that game. The money and exposure are better on ESPN than on NFL network. Plus, I already have my press pass thanks to the fine folks at the Mizzou SID office.

2 problems with Houston.

1) Rice wants nothing to do with a BCS conference. We need to be in a conference where the arms race isn't what it would be in the Big XII.

2) Cougar High sees themselves as a big boy and would love to get in the Big XII, however, outside of being a decent football team the last few years they don't bring much at all to the table.

They need new football and basketball arenas before they are even a discussion topic. Then after that they need support of their students and alumni. Outside of Tech bringing a bunch of fans you can walk up to their 30K seat stadium and buy tickets a few minutes before kickoff. Add to that their less than stellar academics and what do you have left?

Baylor has a far more complete athletic department than Houston. more complete than CU or ISU today, I'd argue. now you can credit some of that (vs. Houston) to BCS revenue for the last 12 years vs. Houston as a SWC mate who ended up in C-USA.

it's unusually popular for Big XII peeps to want to dump BU for TCU....but, this argument is nearly always strictly football based. TCU doesn't bring anything else. in a sense, TCU is the late 00's version of the late 90's Colorado State....another popular choice to "replace" Baylor when they were winning 10 games and the WAC/MWC...and some decent baskteball teams with Stew Morrill (who you know now as the goofy looking guy who has Utah State nearly upsetting someone on TH or Fri of the NCAA Tournament every other year).

if someone could start winning basketball games at TCU, then maybe you could talk.

I have instructed my bro-in-law who lives in Pittsburgh to punch every State Penn fan in the face that claims they deserved the bid over Iowa. Props to you for not being one of these d-bags. Iowa and Georgia Tech are both better football teams than LSU and PSU. I think I would rather watch 2 superior teams play in primetime than 2 inferior teams. Fuck national recognition. I'm a fan of football not a fan of who the media jerks off to. How many fucking times to we have to beat Penn State before we are considered "in their league"? They've fucking beaten us ONCE this DECADE. I'm not ripping on you PSUFAN, I respect your program but I'm getting tired of a lot of PSU fans and media members. Penn State, right now, does NOT have a better program than Iowa. The results on the field prove this.

Very good point - although, the only folks who are confused about this are a vocal group in the PSU fanbase - and not at all a majority, at that.

Looking at some of the other teams in the BCS bowls, Cincinnati has no national appeal outside of Notre Dame fans hoping that they are watching their next coach . . .
I realize this was written before ND hired Kelly, but Kelly won't be there. I suppose it's possible that this game still could give us some sort of clue into what we're getting, but I also think there's a danger in reading too much, whether positive or negative, into a single game.

Carven Holcombe was a pretty good player. Led the NCAA in scoring, IIRC. Of course, that was 20+ years ago, and I'm dating myself pretty severely with this reference.
