Re: Texas-Alabama
Uhh, I think that would be pretty close to 50 / 50.
Saban is a guy that wears out his welcome after a time and hits the road. There is a reason Major left Bama, took a pay cut, and a lesser role at Texas. See Saban and Pendry.
Saban prolly the better X's and O's coach and Mack prolly the better motivator and leader. In a one game meeting between teams with similar talent, give me the motivator.

Re: Texas-Alabama
I heard from a source that I consider to be very reliable that Pendry didn't like having an OC who was so much younger than him. Saban never stepped in and put Pendry in his place and allowed a rift to develop inside the offense. Major not wanting to work in that situation chose to leave.

It is pretty fucking absurd - and telling - that erstwhile deaf, dumb and blind to college football guy mvscal is suddenly posting here.

Re: Texas-Alabama
I don't think you can call out mvscal for being a bandwagon fan in this case. True, he's never posted in BTPCF but Texas is always good. He would have hopped on the bandwagon years ago if he was that type of fan. Is it not possible he just never cared to post on here before? I stopped reading the hoops forum about the same time Iowa's program completely went into the shitter but not because of that. It was actually because nobody posts over there anymore. It's a dead board now. So maybe he's got his own reasons for not posting here until recently. By the way, I just hope Bama and Tejas fan understand they are not playing for a national title. It's nothing more than a BCS Bowl. Titles aren't won in the media despite what most of you on here want to believe.
Re: Texas-Alabama
Of course it is, but that's not the issue. The issue is why he suddenly felt compelled to post here now, at the tail-end of a season during which Texas was clearly going to play for a MNC. What changed about this forum, that suddenly he cared to post here, when he never had before? Is it not possible he just never cared to post on here before?
Woulda been nice to see his perpetually angry ass in here last year, during the Big XII South Clusterfuck. He was posting everywhere else, so why not here too?
Right now, mvscal smells an awful lot like Trix.

You can bandwagon them in this forum, however, which would appear to be the case with you and your curious timing.
So then, why now? What prompted you to suddenly stick your nose in here, and actually participate in said Vaginal Drippings Circle Jerk forum? More to the point, would you be here right now, adding your own tepid secretions, had Texas suffered through OU's and USC's seasons? The answer to the latter question is almost certainly a resounding, "Fuck no," so yes, you are bandwagoning Texas in this forum...same as Mook did with Kansas, two years ago.

Did you go to USC? Just curious as to how many of the forum "stalwarts" here have actually attended let alone graduated from the institution they pimp. How about a show of hands. I'm sure many have. I'm equally sure that the quickest to toss the bandwagon card haven't.
Not that it matters. You don't have to attend a university to support their athletic programs just as much as someone who attended the school. That's like saying I'm not a true Royals fan because I don't live in Kansas City. You won't find a more die-hard Royals fan than me. Have been my whole life and will be until the day I die.

Of course there isn't. Anybody can win a game. The real question is whether you think they will win the game.

I'll watch because it's the MNC game, but there are several other more interesting match ups, imo.

This ain't Vandy or Chattanooga State A&M you're fucking with. Yo defense has never seen no shit like this before. Especially the Greg Davis special- the two yard hitch.

actually, they have. both Oklahoma and Nebraska have statistically about the same as Bama.Sudden Sam wrote: But y'all haven't seen a defense like you're gonna encounter on the 7th.
i still say you take away Shipley and UT is back into their dink/dunk QB option zone read stuff and largely ineffective because they have no one to stretch the field. that's what OU did in October, and NU did in December. and, with 4 weeks to prepare....what Bama will do. press up with the LB's and play man on the outside.
edit: i had some bad stats in the orig.

Re: Texas-Alabama
From a match up perspective. Yeah, I think Bama wins handily. I guess you could say it's the teams too. I just don't give a fuck all about Bama or Texas. They're purty teams but don't offer much in the way of intrigue. It's the predictable and cookie cutter match up. Which would be fine...under a playoff. But with this abomination of a system in which the validity of MNCs are rightfully questioned by folks with functioning synapses, might as well give us chaos. If this system is what we're subjected to, then give me Bama-Cincy or Bama-TCU. Now THAT would offer up some intrigue.Sudden Sam wrote:Because you don't think the NC game will be a good game?! Or because you don't have a Big Ten team in it?
LSU-Penn State should be a good game. Florida-Cincy will be interesting. But what other game(s) will be better to watch than Alabama-Texas?
Idaho-Bowling Green? Nebraska-Arizona? MSU-Texas Tech?

with this system, Bama-UT is what it ought to be. but give me a Final Four type Bama-Cincy and UT-TCU (at Jerry's place?) semis and we're talking. sorry Boise.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote: If this system is what we're subjected to, then give me Bama-Cincy or Bama-TCU. Please double cover Shipley and leave Malcolm WIlliams in single coverage.....please.... Please do not worry about anyone other than Shipley.Sudden Sam wrote:Gotcha.King Crimson wrote: you are taking the wrong tact here Sam. you are going the SECBSH route, when you should be pointing out that UT struggled mightily against the two good D's it faced. Exactly what I'm expecting. No way Shipley will get open much against Bama's DBs. Won't happen. We all saw what Texas' offense did against OU and NU. Can't wait to see what the Tide LBs do against Texas. Still hate they're without their best LB, Donta Hightower, but it's been that way since the Arkansas game, so I guess they can survive.
And Bama's offense, although far from a juggernaut, is much, much better than Nebraska's pitiful excuse for one...and better than OU's which was hampered by the loss of Bradford and operating behind a crippled O-line.
Dammit, I'm not doing the SECBSH thang! Am I coming across that way? I'm tryng to be logical and rational and discuss this thing in terms of weaknesses and strengths.
Hell, I'm scared shitless about this game. Logically, when I look at both teams, I see a Tide win. Something like 31-10 seems right. But there are so many variables: will McElroy be calm and on target early or will he get rattled? I'm bettin' on the very sharp, very calm McElroy, but who knows? Will Rolando McLain meet an agent before the game and get suspended? Will anyone get nicked at practice and miss the game? Will the plane go down today? Will Saban take the Grand Valley State job?

Williams really lit up the Huskers. that was a sweet drop he had the one time Davis called his shot down the sidelines. homer on Harv.Harvdog wrote:

if i'm Greg Davis, i put the TE in play. Williams is no Limas Sweed.

Re: Texas-Alabama
I know...but what it ought to be only justifies the system, and that's where the luster wears off for me. Like I said, if they met in a playoff it'd have all the appeal of a sexy AND legitimate match up. That's the ultimate goal cfb should strive for. Probly won't happen anytime soon.King Crimson wrote:with this system, Bama-UT is what it ought to be. but give me a Final Four type Bama-Cincy and UT-TCU (at Jerry's place?) semis and we're talking. sorry Boise.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote: If this system is what we're subjected to, then give me Bama-Cincy or Bama-TCU. Re: Texas-Alabama
It was Kirkendoll that dropped the pass, not Williams. We do not have a TE as we lost our top 3 before the start of the season. Homer? Your BSHism is so deeply ingrained you don't even realize when you're doing it.Logically, when I look at both teams, I see a Tide win. Something like 31-10 seems right.
I like Bama, but not in a laffer and not by anywhere close to 3 TD's.
I'll call it 17-14.

In fairness to Sam, he did call a rather large beat down of UF in the SEC championship game. Rammer Jammer has a good team this year and Sam is confident. I'd be the same way. Hell, I was back in the late 80's.
