Screw Amerikan Airlines

I hope they go bankrupt. As if the day hasn't been bad enough...

I got a call this morning from my grandmother's attorney to notify me that she had been taken to the hospital in the wee hours of the evening, she had passed on to a better place by 6am and they couldn't get in contact with my father this morning. He was on a flight from Philadelphia connecting to Atlanta after attending the Army/Navy game. She was a great woman who who has had health issues since long before I was born but amazingly outlived all her relatives from her generation despite them. Her and My grandfather were the ones who took care of me when my father was sent to Iraq in the first Gulf War and I spent just about every Christmas and many summers with them in Oklahoma up until high school. outside of my father her and my grandfather were the most influential people through most of my life.

I booked two flights for me and my sister to OKC connecting through Atlanta and Dallas the earliest I could which was late this evening. Paid their highway robbery short notice prices and all... Get to the damn airport after hastily slamming shit together for the two of us and making arrangements only to find out the flight to Atlanta has been canceled due to weather conditions... Now I have to get up early in the morning and do it all over again.

Sorry to hear about your loss Suncoast. She sounds like a great woman. And I agree about airlines, regardless of the carrier.

They overbook on purpose, and it's a crap shoot whether you get on the flight or not. I hope the people that put that policy in place get the same treatment in their emergency medical care.

"Oh, sorry about your heart attack, but we only have 5 beds, and you are number 6. You can ask the family's of the other patients to give up the bed their family member now occupies".

Sorry to hear about your grandmother, suncoast. While sounding trite right now, but you will always have the memories… something you’ll appreciate more at a later date.

Re: Airlines
Not sure why you’re bitching about AA. Weather happens. This could have easily been United, AirTran, etc that cancelled their flight. As a matter of fact, I’ll bet the rest of the airlines out of Atlanta also had some cancellations. I’d much rather a cancellation than risking taking off/landing in bad weather. So really, no basis for picking on AA in this case.

As far as the high fare, it WAS a last minute booking, so yes, it will be expensive… as it would have been with any other airline, not just AA. Some, United included, offer bereavement fares for situations like this.

Anyways, chin up, chap. Safe travels this morning.

Because AA was was the only one canceling the flights to Atlanta. They just wanted to save operation costs for a flight that didn't have many people.

That airlines actually cancel flights for that reason is largely a myth. Not saying it DOESN’T happen, but very rarely. You have to understand that it costs the airline MORE to not have that plane at its destination city for its next flight than it does to just cancel the flight ‘cuz of few passengers.

Let me tell you about me and my sister's Monday. Drove all the way out to Pcola in the morning for them to tell me everything was getting canceled but if I wanted to drive to Okaloosa Walton Regional they could probably get me out from there to Atlanta. I scheduled out of Pcola because of cost concerns at the time OWR is only a short drive to my house. Got herded on and off the plane four times before we finally took off... only to be diverted to New Orleans. I asked about getting off there and catching a connecting flight to DFW which was where our connecting flight to OKC was going out from. Flight attendant told me we were just refueling and that we would be back up in the air very shortly. We were back up in the air shortly... ended up in Birmingham. They let us off the flight in Birmingham and we caught a connecting flight back to New Orleans. Eventually got to Dallas and then OKC after midnight. By the time we got to the hotel it was almost 2am and we had to be up at 6am for our other sister to meet us... was a hell of a day.

Only hitch we had coming back was waiting for our baggage for over an hour and half. Came back with three times as much crap as we left with.
