That's a real kick in the stones: Gruden would pick the Skins (and Snyder) over ND. But ND is still relevant.
Go ahead and link up where anyone said ND was the only job Gruden would take.

The boom or bust potential is larger for Gruden. I don't think Kelly is going to fall flat on his face, nor do I think he will reach Urban Meyer/Pete Carrol type heights. I think Gruden could do either.

Nobody thought Gerry Faust would be such a fucking bad joke of a coach either.
Fuck, Gerry Faust was the original Dan Hawkins

I don't expect Gruden to be coaching in D.C., despite his "pal" B. Allen going there.
Gruden recently extended his contract at ESPN and I expect him OUT of coaching until at least the end of 2010.
I DO think he'll get back into coaching again, though.
He's young, he seems very wired for it, and I believe he still wants to get his hands dirty.
Not a rocking chair, talking head sort of guy ... at this point.

I could be wrong about this, but wasn't Allen the GM with whom Gruden had a little tiff at Tampa Bay? If so, he's not exactly likely to hire Gruden to coach the Redskins.

I certainly never said that. And I believe you're taking a statement out of context. I believe the person who allegedly said that actually said that ND was the only
college job Gruden would take.
In fact, I stated repeatedly that I considered Gruden to be a professional coach at this point in his career, and that I thought he considered himself to be a pro coach as well.
That's a real kick in the stones: Gruden would pick the Skins (and Snyder) over ND. But ND is still relevant.
If he actually had been offered the ND job, and
if he turned that job down, and
if he wound up accepting the Western Michigan job, you might be on to something. As it is, in reality this is a "nothing to see here, now move along" type of post.

If posting style could be translated to NFL skills, Screw would be a Prime Time Sanders type of corner back with his back pedaling, turn and run ability, and short memory for when he gets abused.

As for ND being relevant, let's not forget that ND's new coach passed on a BCS bowl game to take the ND job. To anyone with even an ounce of objectivity, that should qualify the program as still relevant.

The assloads of cash and sweet TV deal mean they're still relevant for the moment. The clock's ticking, though. That TV deal is up pretty soon, isn't it?
I believe it runs through 2013.
I guess they might actually have to join a conference after that.
Guess again. The TV contract is nothing new. In fact, it's been around since 1991, and it's already has been renewed four times. I'm not sweating that it'll be renewed -- not yet, anyway.

Do me a favor. Go ahead and link me up to the last coach Western Michigan hired who blew off "an irrelevant BCS bowl game" to take that job. Or the Michigan State job, for that matter, so that I've covered both your teams.

Maybe the title of this thread should be edited to read "Mike Shannahan".

Gruden's got a good gig now. The best MNF booth since Cosell left.
