Texas Bowl Live from Press Row (Sidelines)

I will update this thread as time and interest allows. Couple of thoughts 35 mins prior to kickoff.

Mizzou wearing white tops, black pants, and normal helmets. Navy in mostly blue with white, gold, and red.

Sunbelt officials for today's game.

Decent crowd already in the stands both sides and tons in the parking lots.

Roof is open at Reliant Stadium and field is showing no NFL or Texans markings other than the yardline numbers are in the NFL position rather than the college position closer to the sidelines. As such you will notice a couple of hash marks perpendicular to the yardlines below the numbers to indicate where the numbers should be.

Any questions you have about a bowl from behind the scenes let me know and I will answer or try to find an answer for you.

Lefty

I'm curious about the size differential between the linemen for each team. Being up close, is it noticeable? I've read the Mizzou O-lineman outweigh Navy's D-line by an average of 30-40 lbs.

Don't know the ticket guarantee for each school but will ask one of the bowl officials when I see them.

Yes, huge size difference between the linemen and squads in general. Then again Navy has been outsized all year even against Army.

Reckless Kelly just did the anthem with boy scouts holding a flag that went from the 30 to the 30.

Rather than give them a ton of things they gave them gift cards to different places. Including a $400 gift card to Best Buy. There was a photo op with both teams at local Best Buys that were closed to general public for the two hours.

Pres. Bush Sr in the house and greeting the Midshipmen as they exit the field.

Great Mizzou sign just shown inside the stadium. "Hey KU how is the TV reception?"

Then a sign by Longhorn fans that said something along the lines of Longhorns supporting Navy, thanks for your service.

Crowd will be more Mizzou but lots of local Texas and ATM fans.

I have a vote for MVP so get your votes in during the third quarter and I will tally them up and submit TIB ballot.

Bush Sr to toss the coin.

Also props the the Texas Bowl staff. They have done a huge job in building this bowl game. They have sold 68,000 tickets (in stadium) will be just over 45,000. But next season they will get 5th pick from Big XII teams.

What's with the red in Navy's unis? Is there some symbolism or just a fashion thing?

Mizzous unis back to normal, thankfully.

I got the Tigers in this one.

Danario takes it to the HOUSE!

That's what he's been doing all year but nobody seemed to notice.

2 play :24 drive, with second longest reception in Texas bowl history at 58 yards.

About a 15 second delay between live and the cable broadcast. I can watch the play live then look up and see it "live" on ESPN.

Ticket Guarantee was 11,000 per school. However, Navy requested 7K more and it was granted.

Fly over prior to the game by F-18s. Problem is with the way this stadium is designed only about 5% of the fans can see it.

Got to say the Mizzou Golden Girls are looking good again, but they couldn't get a better name?

Two thoughts so far for Navy offense.

1. Look for a quick snap sometime soon. Mizzou is way slow to get ready for the snap. They are expecting the fake motion.

2. Where the hell is 'Spoon? Navy has completely removed him from these first two drives. He is now thinking too much. Standing flat footed and reading instead of attacking.

15 plays, 90 yards, 6:56 TOP.

Total Yards Navy 146 Mizzu 81

Rush Yards Navy 113 Mizzu 4

Fuckshitpissdamn! :brad:

Navy triple option ripping Mizzou apart. I don't know what kind of game plan they had drawn up to stop this, but it needs to be trashed. 16 play, 10 minute drives can't be allowed to happen.

With the last reception Danario Alexander now the all time leading receiver at MU.

Mizzu DB's totally lost. Edwards and Simmons both pointed to the Navy WR before last throw for first down and then neither covered him. Spent next two plays discussing until coaches stepped in. Steckel or one of the other Mizzou coaches has white board on field and diagraming plays for defense during quarter break.

Tigers better pull their fucking head out, on both sides of the ball, and with the play calling.

They've got a 2 man D-line, run the goddamn ball you morons.

The next time Mizzou lines with with a back that isn't motioned into the backfield will be the second time.

The Mizzou advantage would seem to be the biggest right up the middle of the field. Instead they are spreading the field mostly with no RB and playing into an area where Navy is at least somewhat better. Press box is shocked at Mizzou gameplan right now.

Clearly a fumble. 2nd of the day for the frosh QB. But for those two turnovers this is a 21 7 game.

This too is clearly a fumble and should have been a Navy TD.

Discussion is where and when did whistle blow.

Bad day so far for the Sun Belt officials.

Have a Vodka and water for me if you do.

Any questions you guys want me to ask Gary, let me know and I will. Now they must be respectful and about the game or season, but I will ask them.

Also, don't forget to vote for MVP and I will tally for the T1B vote.

Gabbert can't read the field

I mentioned it after Illinois game, he locks on 1 player and if he ain't there he tucks it away and tries to run.

Yost is worse than DC, he refuses to run the ball. The middle is wide open, and he uses the stupid stretch play.

I'll miss 4th quarter, Blues-Nucks game at Scott. Rack lefty for sideline stuff.

PS lefty, all MU fans know the middle and run is there, now u know what we go through every fuckin game. Clueless coords.

Lefty,
if you get a chance, can you run up to the broadcast booth and tell the idiot doing the national radio broadcast that the Chick Fil-A Bowl is not pronounced Chick "Fillah." TIA.

Post game or half-time questions?

I'd ask him what he's going to change in the game plan for half-time and post game I'd ask him did they take Navy for a patsy and come in unprepared.

Yes:

Q: Coach pinkel, is there any other running plays you have, besides the stretch play?

Also, tell the idiot doing the game, that the punter is named JAKE Harry, not Blake Harry

for christs sake.

I was wondering why the Mizz rb's dance instead of sprint into a hole of a 2-man defensive front. get the 5-6 yards instead of 2-3.

it's the stretch

worst play ever. your olineman and rb are running sideways. only thing that can happen is bad. Hold, tackle for loss, etc

The stretch is run all over the country against 4 and 5 man fronts with greater success. The rb's need to pick a hole and get fucking moving.

Not the MU stretch

it's a slow, sideways play that goes nowhere vs even mediocre defenses.

I will ask about the stretch. And these are post game questions, I don't have access to him at half. Don't think anyone does.

I think some guys just like to mispronounce Fil A.

Did just see some of the Mizzou coaches in the pisser on their way into the coaching box. They were discussing a QB draw from the gun. Maybe look for that here in the 2nd half.

It's amazing how bad Mizzous defense is

the corners literally have no fucking clue how to cover a WR or even play a zone. Seriously, never seen a secondary this bad, as bad as last years was, this is no better.

It's actually laughable.

He looked at that WR as soon as ball snapped and never took his eyes off him

I hope Franklin can read a defense, he could give Gabbert a run for his money in spring ball

I said it early on and it is just getting worse. 'Spoon, is lost. Only LB worth a crap today in Ebner playing in his home town, and used to seeing triple option a ton in his HS district. 'Spoon with only 4 tackles now halfway thru the 3rd.
