Traditionally I've been against the electric chair......but more in favor of the electric bleacher & doing them all at one time.

But a recent case here has me on the fence. A POS drove up next to a Seattle police car & shot to death a field training officer who was discussing a just-completed traffic stop with his trainee officer. He also slightly wounded the trainee. This came after he fire-bombing a police parking lot with the intent to kill/hurt officers (not just damage the vehicles). Normally I would be fine with offing him.

But when he was captured he tried to shoot the detectives attempting to stop him & ended up being shot himself. One of the bullets that hit him severed his spinal cord, leaving him paralyzed for the rest of his life. Additionally, one television station reported that "massive" amounts of child porn were found on his home computer.

So now I question whether this fucker would just be getting off easy by getting an arm prick before taking a never-ending nap, or if it would be better for him to spend the rest of his life knowing that the rest of the prison population wants a piece of him while he's defenseless.

The fact that he could go out Dahmer-style is almost more appealing (as well as possibly saving the officer's family the anguish of going through each appeal) than giving this guy the death penalty (via old age on death row).

Pretty much the main reason it was banned in the commonwealth. Public execution came to be viewed as a power play, a form of humiliation and taunting when one of your own was put to death by the higher-ups. Crowds stopped being enthused and just got really, really pissed off.

I have searched this extensively and there is not a single case of a proven wrongful execution since the Death Penalty was reinstated in the early 70's.

It happened in Castlewood Park in West St. Louis County, less than 10 miles from where I live.

US Supreme Court prohibits death penalty for juvinile killer. (March 1, 2005) The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld a Missouri Supreme Court case involving death penalty eligibility for minors. At issue was the case of Christopher Simmons, who was 17-years-old when he kidnapped neighbor Shirley Crook in 1993, tied her, and threw her off a bridge in St. Louis County. Prosecutors claimed Simmons had boasted that because of his age he could get away with killing the woman. Initially, Simmons was sentenced to death, but his attorneys argued he should not be executed because of his age at the time of the killing. The State Supreme Court agreed. It set aside Simmons' death sentence and resentenced him to life in prison with no chance for probation or parole. The US Supeme Court has ruled the Missouri Supreme Court took the appropriate action. In making its ruling, the court has barred the death penalty for all killers throughout the country who were under the age of 18 when they committed their crimes.
