First time flying since befor Xmas, based on the horror stories I read, was expecting the worst. Out of KC (private security) nothing different at all. No major delays or bullshit. Back out of Sarasota today, they "swiped" my baggie, and also had security doing bag checks at the gate. Being Gold and getting the upgrade I got on first so didn't see who or how many lucky folks got the secondary search. The added bullshit still makes me want to fight any muzzies I see. Since I'm headed into Detroit I'm sure I,ll see a few. This fligjts already 20 minutes late and I have a tight connection. On the positive side imy new blackberry seems to work pretty well on posting.

Flew out of Newark on New Year's Eve, on a flight scheduled to leave at 5:25 pm. The security search was a little more thorough than a week before but the line was very short. Took maybe 10 minutes from getting in line to putting my shoes back on. The plane was in the air by about 5:45 and reached Orange County on time. The morons on the monring news shows were predicting horrendous waits due to the penis bomber. I guess that's what they're paid to do.

Lucky I wasn't there a couple of days later though, as I flew out of Terminal C, where they shut things down and re-screened everybody after some iodot went in through the exit. 7 hour delays apparently.

NWA announced an Ice storm in route to Detroit last night so they had us circle Cleveland for an hour then land in Saginaw to take fuel.
Of course we didn't get de-iced, strange considering there was an ice storm just 50 miles south.
When we landed in Detroit, there wasn't any ice and the highways didnt look backed up flying in.

Luckliy all the flights were delayed, so I made the plane back to KC and sat next to a guy just coming back in from Toronto.
Fucking horror story - Went through normal security then they did a full bag check on EVERY passenger and then a full pat down search on EVERY Passenger. They also allowed NO carry ons except for purses / laptop bags.

That's because the storm was "en-route", not "en-Detroit", and more than likely had moved far enough south of "en-route" to no longer be a factor

Probably not as reactionary as it sounds -- the U&L is patrolled by the Air Guard out of Portland, whose base is adjacent to the airport.

There's F-15s flying in and out of there all day, pretty much heading down the river and patrolling the ocean.

They were probably (just guessing) in the area anyway, and quite possibly on their way back in.

Scrambled them out of Portland. I was taking a walk and heard them lower than normal, faster than normal on the Hawaii heading all the commercial jets take, and the military never takes I wondered WTF, since they normally run out to the practice area which is about 100 miles off Tillamook.

Pretty normal to hear /see 4 or more sorties a day.

When I crash at the OL's in St Johns, they fly over every morning right around 8:30, on the way to the coast. Ther're generally just stating to gas it up a little as the pass the peninsula... usually pretty loud.

Just out of coincidence, they're directly overhead as i Typre this... well, until I finished typing anyway... they move pretty fast.

F-15E's?

The Screaming Eagles are very cool... and very loud. I know they're not as fast or manueverable as an F-16 or F-18, but back in the day they ruled. Still one of the baddest ass looking fighter aircraft ever made.

No doubt. My first permanent assignment in the AF was Luke AFB outside Phoenix, which was an F-15 training base. Saw them fuckers fly a lot. One of the most dominant fighters ever built.

When I got out of basic in 1980 and went to tech school in Wichita Falls, Tx. they had an F-15 sitting in the hangar where the classes were held. Sorta' a display or training model, I guess. That was the first aircraft I ever got to sit in the cock-pit of.

Probably one of the reasons they still use the old beasts for patrolling around here -- they need to cover a lot of ground quickly.

And they're also paid-for.

And it's my understanding that they aren't good for a whole heck of a lot else besides hauling ass in a straight line, or not by modern standards anyway.

An F-15 can notch 1,875 mph or mach 2.5 which would blow the cowling off an F-16 or F-18.
