Sam, don't worry, soon enough someone will come along with something that'll make me want to replace that Bama-Walmart sig with their little gem.

Sam, case in point...

If I didn't like Jsc so much, nearly every post he makes would be sig-worthy. Actually, no, that's not even it. He's just not colorful enough in his laving. Every trolling post of his concludes with a smilie face, which kinda takes the air outta his sig-worthiness.

I'd throw in the majority of the Big XII and ACC as well. And Iowa.

It'd be funny if it happened to ND as well, albeit for a slightly different reason. South Bend ain't exactly your typical college town. And there's not exactly any love lost between ND and South Bend either, for that matter. Simply put, if ND were forced to display a national championship trophy in a South Bend Wal-Mart, then the ESPN-ization of college football would be complete.

But I guess I can live with it.
I would lick clean all toilets and urinals at Walmart for a championship.

Bet you will after 5-6 years without one. :)
Nah. It's already been five years since the last one, and I don't see myself ever becoming so desperate for the next one that I'd lick urinals just to get it. Yeah, I liked it when USC was winning big, but not that much.

Nah, it ain't just your age, it's the fact that you know you didn't beat the real Texas team, and now you've got the Walmart stigma. Also, you just know that Saban will soon enough bail, so you don't want to commit that heavily to any of this.

Plus, okay, yeah, you're getting to be really fucking old. :-)

The only reason people might remember it 20 years from now is because of the internet age. Does anyone remember anything about the 1988 NC?

We're not twenty years from now. He just watched the game. It's still fresh in his mind, and he'll always know.

He shouldn't care now, and he won't care then. ND fans barely remember that ND knocked out Major Harris. They didn't care then, either. Like Alabama, they obliterated the #2 team the game before.

Problem is, he does care now, and he likely won't be alive then.

Isn't that the year you got to play overrated West Virginia instead of a real team?

Notre Dame beat all the other real teams.

At the end of the regular season, ND and West Virginia were the only two unbeaten teams in BTPCF. Had ND played another team instead, West Virginia would've accused ND of ducking them, or alternatively, favoring their other opponent. And it has to be considered against the Miami-Penn State Fiesta Bowl precedent only two years earlier. Had ND not played West Virginia, their most likely bowl opponent would've been Miami, whom ND already had beaten in the regular season.

Speaking of which, ND beat no less than four teams that were ranked #3 or higher at the time they played ND (Michigan, Miami, USC, West Virginia). To imply somehow that there ought to be an asterisk next to ND's '88 national championship is simply absurd.

I bought a t-shirt commemmorating the 1988 NC and I still have it to this day. I gave it to my kid to use for a football practice jersey for youth football. Call it a little history lesson, courtesy of me.
