wife is having a valentine's day party and I was trying to drum up some tunes. got me thinking of the good songs I've found on people's wedding CDs. I've had sum bullshit achy breaky ones and some good ones that had river deep, mountain high and oh yoko.

I'm looking for some good wedding CD tunes. hit me.

Link Wray/ Girl from the north country - 1964.

It's got energy, it's nostalgically romantic, not really anthem-y like River Deep. And it's unusual in that Wray actually sings. Good background noise and fits the mood?

Was never the biggest fan myself, but considering the age range of skanks who will be in attendence at your shindig...

Every time I've heard Shaggy - It Wasn't Me at a wedding, the dirty whores used it as a vehicle to release their inner-dirty-whore on the dance floor, so I'd have to recommend it.

Seems like I've heard it at quite a few weddings.

Which kinda begs the question -- what's the mental process behind playing a song glorifying infidelity at a wedding?

(Thought maybe you were resetting Sam Kinison)

Gotta admit, it's a chick song.

But it was on our CD (actually it was a cassette waaay back then) and to this day it's about the surest way to get the OL to melt.

I put Atom Heart Mother Suite on one of the discs we played at my wedding reception. Also had One of These Days on there.

Others that I can remember off the top of my head...

From Tommy

Overture
It's a Boy
Sparks
Christmas
Underture

Zeppelin

Goin to California
Hats off to Roy Harper
Bron-Yr-Aur

Springsteen

She's the One
Thunder Road
10th Avenue Freeze Out
Atlantic City

Now mind you, this was all cocktail/dinner music, and I'm forgetting a bunch of stuff. When it came time to hit the dance floor, we had a live band. This thread makes me want to go find those CDs.

I apologize. I started this thread in hopes that everyone would follow up with serious responses. It seems that everyone was under the impression I was merely setting them up for jokes and whatsuch. Understandable misunderstandingsm.

Serious Replies Only, Friends.

my mom loves the Stylistics. i remember hearing this soul music in her red, two door Buick Skylark with a white leather top. she also rocked sly and the family, jb, brother ray, san and dave, and otis...she's cool. was always cool. still cool

and the Spinners: that's real shit and Al Green.

best Spinners, most played is I'll Be Around but that's kind of post-breakup tune....

it is of course an unbearable cliche to see a bunch of pasty white people loving this one tune or whatever to "celebrate" some post-dated property ritual....in the name of "soul music" and love.

though, i could be wrong. willing to admit that.
