A Serious Question for PUSFAN

T1B is running google analytics, which means you're tracking user movement.

Why?

What possible reason could there be for you to give a flying fuck what sites T1B users visit?

Shouldn't that be spelled "witch"?

Just want to be clear about this, PUS: You're denying it?

Think carefully about your answer

Denying what? Google analytics is on this site - no argument there.

Do you really know what GA tracks, cuddles?

Think carefully about your answer.

:blackhelicopters:

I think he's implying that your characterization of Google Analytics is a bit too broad and solely intent on trying to stir shit.

To my knowledge it's a service that provides simple website traffic analysis - how people get to your site, what they are interested in while at your site, etc..

He isn't "spying" on activity outside the domain of theoneboard.com.

I'm open to the possibility of being totally wrong.

Google Analytics (GA) is a free service offered by Google that generates detailed statistics about the visitors to a website.
GA can track visitors from all referrers, including search engines, display advertising, pay-per-click networks, email marketing and digital collateral such as links within PDF documents.
Google Analytics is implemented by including what is known as a "page tag". This is referred to as the Google Analytics Tracking Code (GATC) and is a hidden snippet of JavaScript code that the user adds onto every page of his or her website. This code acts as a beacon, collecting private visitor data and sending it back to Google data collection servers for processing.
Security Issues
Since Google uses IP addresses to identify users, all of this information on browsing and search history was released to hackers (most likely the Chinese government) during the recent breach of Google's security. As much as we might want to ignore the issue, this is not the first time that Google has been breached. While this probably isn't an issue for those that use Google Analytics, it is certainly an issue for those who visit websites that use Google Analytics.
No big deal, eh? Well, no, not very much for you- just for everyfucking body else who visits here.

Google analytics compiles usage stats for a domain. It doesn't tell me "what sites T1B users visit".

If I had known that GA would make Cuddles melt like this, I would have signed us up years earlier than I did...

In case my point is being missed/ignored- What the fuck is the point in this message board using google analytics?

You're not collecting user's browsing & search histories to market the board to new users, or collect advertising revenue, because t1b doesn't do either of these things. Saying that blogs and other sites do the same thing is entirely irrelevant and nothing more than a smokescreen.

So I'll ask one last time: What & why the fuck do you care what other websites users of this board visit?

Cuda - none of us give a flying fuck what other sites folks visit. Even if we did, though - GA wouldn't give us that information.

The one question you refuse to answer,PUS, is why you think you need to use google analytics AT ALL.

Re: A Serious Question for PUSFAN

Posted: Thu Feb 25, 2010 7:01 pm
by PSUFAN
I don't think I "need" to use it, Cuddles. It is entirely optional.

Re: A Serious Question for PUSFAN

by Cuda
So why exercise the option?

You're not marketing the board to new users and you're not trying to collect advertising revenue, so why use it at all?

Your explanations are becoming less believable every time you hit "submit"

I haven't offered any explanations, cuddles. GA is running on this site - that fact has never been concealed.

I'm still not sure what you're getting at - initially, you accused us of tracking what sites users visit...clearly indicating your confusion about what GA does. Do you understand GA any better now? Let me know if I can help.

Damn, is that Fly actually taking up for T1B?

Rack you if you did -
first, i don't know otis from anywhere other than katy telling me she married a guy named mark.
second, katy, chyna, spray, red rover and sg are all long time aquaintences of mine and they all know how to take care of themselves on the web. they don't need any help from me. I primarily come here because i like the chat and radio.
bottom line: the latest round of bs and drama has nothing to do with me.

Take this as your opportunity to stop posting here and never come in here again. That way you get over on GA AND T1B, and it is one less ankle biter to waste bandwidth.

Here is a report I just generated from GA

Reports of that kind are available on any web hosting account. Google Analytics is probably the best free tool available...but hosting accounts always make a couple of other programs available.

Screen Resolutions Report

If I set the board up with a theme that had specific width dimensions, I'd first want to check what screen resolutions T1B users used - and I would generate a report like the one above.

54.42% of our users. As for the security of Katy's crotch...I think the horrific stench prevents just about all approaches, apart from the truly desperate.

in case you don't quite get it cuda a first party cookie works only for the domain it is placed on. once you leave here that cookie doesn't do anything. i'm a member of google adsense and have ads sprinkled around my website. i get info from a similar first party cookie. no big deal dude.

You could use Netscape up to a few years ago. I used to use Navigator on my old computer because of tabbed browsing. This was before Mozilla.
