Cyber Attack

I guess CNN ran a special in late February, simulating a cyber "terror" attack on the United States.
It's on YouTube - 9 part series - didn't watch it.
But I get the general idea.
Look it up if you want to.
And it'll be pretty damn BAD if your p0rn gets knocked out, people.
So my question for you smart individuals is, by WHEN will we experience some sort of "significant" cyber problem which will lead to the government taking action to attempt to take over the interweb ... for our own good?
2010?
2011?
2047?
20never?
What do you think?

Porn is for sinners.
I'm more afraid of losing my weekly email from the DNCC begging for money to beat back the barbarians.

"This case shows the use terrorists can and do make of the Internet," said U.S. Attorney Michael L. Levy. "Colleen LaRose and five other individuals scattered across the globe are alleged to have used the Internet to form a conspiracy to provide material support to terrorism, culminating in a direct order to LaRose to commit murder overseas."
It's escalating.

Maybe we could get Otis and Katy to infiltrate their group and fuck with their profiles and stuff.

The Internet allowed extremists to contact, recruit, train and equip the suspect responsible for the attempted Flight 253 bombing on Christmas Day "within weeks," a top Pentagon official told lawmakers Wednesday.
That relatively brief timeframe only speaks to how quickly extremist groups have "optimized" the Web and developed a "highly evolved" process by which to develop terrorist networks, added Garry Reid, deputy assistant secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Combating Terrorism.
"Enabled by 21st-century technology, extremists have optimized the use of Internet chat rooms, Web sites and e-mail chains to spread their virulent messages and reach a global audience of potential recruits," Reid told the Senate Armed Services Committee

Tom gets it.
We're already getting rumblings.
Some "event" that will take place in the not-too-distant future - and then there will be a concerted effort to end the "free" internet as we've known it.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Jihad Jane.
Perhaps the first POW in the CyberWar Theatre of the War on Terror.
Citizens, Cyber "Militia" as it were, "captured her".
Groups like JawaReport, Quoth the Raven and the YouTube Smackdown Corps claim they had been monitoring LaRose's growing militancy for three years, and watched as the Internet -- particularly YouTube -- fed her fervor.
They also said "Jihad Jane" is not the only one on the Internet that the groups are monitoring.
"There are certainly many others out there who are more eloquent and appear to be more dangerous from the way they talk," a man calling himself Rusty Shackleford told ABC News.

Interesting article.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/04 ... -taxation/
proposes creating a national framework for the taxation of digital goods and services and imposing a fee to establish and maintain a national public safety wireless broadband network. The Obama administration has a plan to expand online innovation and boost national public safety. And it wants to do it with more taxes and higher fees.

"This is a critical and essential public safety need," Kenny (FCC spokeman) said. "And we're confident that people will realize the benefits that the whole nation will gain with the creation of this network for public safety."

You're right on that point, Sam - our financial overlords the Chinese desire that our economy stays strong.
Cyber terror is far more likely to come from the Middle East, or from a domestic Teabag group...

Wrong. The Internet is a tool. And like any other tool, it can be used or misused.

You could look at religion as a tool of the mind. But to compare religion and the Internet is to draw a false equivalency. The Internet is a physical tool. Everything about it exists in real temporal space. Religion is a fabrication of those who cannot bear to admit that they do not understand the world around them. The Internet is a simple communication tool.

EVERY advance in communication has resulted in government having a greater ability to reach into your life. Conversely, we also have a greater ability to see our government at work than at any time in the history of the Republic. 100 years ago nobody would have given a fuck if the Congressman from some backwater shithole was pushing for pork for his district. Now anybody who wants to know can find out just who is getting how many donations from who and how that is impacting said Congressman's voting. Sadly, most of the people in this country appear to be passive aggressive douche nozzles who don't want to know anything and would rather just be mad at someone.

Nobody gives a flying fuck, douchebag.
You can check back in once you have figured out federal spending as percentage of GDP in 1910 vs. 2010 and total federal spending in 1910 adjusted for inflation. Until then you can go fuck yourself.
