SEC Speed!

Is a bunch of horseshit, not that that will stop ESPN next year when talking about teams from the south. But UF's Joe Haden ran a 4.70 at the combine, and Brandon Spikes ran a 5.05 at his pro day.

Again, it comes down to coaching. Good coaches make players look faster by putting them in position to make plays.

Some people do run faster than others, though.

I wonder about those 40 times sometimes. I will never forget back in 2001 when Iowa WR Kevin Kasper ran a 4.39 40 at the combine. No one ever knew he was fast. He was a possession receiver in college and he never once showed blazing speed. I would have figured him for 4.6 speed at best.

The SEC speed crap is overhyped. I saw 2006 Ohio State and 2005 Florida (mostly the same players on the 2006 squad) both in person. Florida did not look faster by any means. But everyone talks about how they dominated tOSU because of the speed difference. Bullshit. tOSU came in cocky and unprepared and Florida came in hungry and ready to play. Year in and year out tOSU has as many skill position players drafted high as anyone and because they've lost a couple championship games to SEC teams, everyone says they're slow. It's just another one of those made up arguments by ESPN. Kind of like how Tyler Hansbrough was the only player in the country that hustled and played hard last year........allegedly.

This is the correct answer. When coaches talk about the speed of SEC teams, they are typically referring to the defensive line. Everyone has skill position speed.

S'wot I was going to say. They're talking about the non-skill-position players.

One thing's for damn certain though: I don't wanna see any videos of a shirtless Terrance Cody running a forty. Fucker would probably knock himself out. I only wanna see shit like that if it's National Geographic, and even then the bitches gotta be skinny!

With no shirt on while running, Cody wouldn't even be able to see where the track goes.

I don't even see how a body like that happens at such a young age, especially for someone who's a full-time athlete. That guy's tits are as big as Katy's!

The speed shit is a fucking lie. I'll give you that over the last decade the SEC has been the best overall conference. Go through NFL starting lineups and you'll notice that the Big-10 has as many guys starting (and being top contributors) as any conference except the SEC. But the difference between the SEC and Big-10 is not that far off.

Doesn't matter the position. WR, RB, CB, DE, LB, OL, QB, etc...........Big-10 stars all over creation.

Big-12? Not so much. Not even close to the Big-10. Same with Pac-10, ACC, or Big East.

Ohio State produces plenty of high draft picks at LB and DL, so that argument is false.

You guys watch too much ESPN. Go download some porn or something.

How have those players for OSU done in the pros at those positions?

Wil Smith All Pro DE for the Saints
Ryan Pickett Franchise Tag from the Packers
AJ Hawk still starting for the Packers
Carpenter 2nd team...got more PT toward the end of the year in Big D
Vrabel a very good career as a 3-4 OLB in New England
Vern G a bust so far in New York but not sure he was made to play OLB in a 3-4...
Matt Wilhelm started for 3 or 4 years with the Chargers
Darrion Scott played and started 3 or 4 year with the Vikings

so all in all not horrific by any stretch...
