The Big Least

Fuck this bloated, stupid, overrated mess of a conference. To summarize:
#3 Georgetown lost to a team that went 7-9 in the MAC.
#6 Marquette blows it against a Pac slappy that barely qualified.
#6 Notre Dame - Shit. Just pure shit.
#2 Villanova - About as good as a 15 seed.
Toss in two Big East teams losing at home in the first round of the NIT, and UCONN needing OT to advance past the 1st round.
And it's not even over.
The committee needs to rework the seeding in the future. G'town is an 8 seed in the Big East tourney, but a 3 in the NCAA tourney? Give me a fucking break. THE EXPERIMENT HAS FAILED.

GT didn't just lose - they got drilled.
Awesome 1st day. 3 OT games and many nail biters. 6 lower seeds move on.

Go easy on the big least. It's a bad year for them. They have won a few titles this past decade. And, it's not so much they are THE roundball conference as it is they are the only conference which was specifically conceived for basketball. Until recently there wasn't even a big least football conference.

Does anyone have any stats on tournament upsets over the last 20 years or so? Are there many more 14s moving on? Seems like there should be with all the early departures by NBA prospects. I doubt there are many 14 seeds affected by lottery pics leaving after their sophomore season.

Eh, I forgot they won it and not Cal. Does it really even matter? They were seeded 5 spots lower than Marquette. Look at the big picture for once and stop sessin' about trivial details, dumbfuck.

Trivial details? You can't "barely qualify" if you win your league tournament, idiot. If you're the last at-large in? Yes, you "barely qualify." Get your fucking facts straight, moron.

Yes, I know how it works, assHOLE. I had forgotten that Washington won the conference tournament. Of course, you keep skipping around the whole fucking point of this thread in favor of picking apart trivial matters. But, that's what you do.
Now apparently it's WVU's turn to get the fuck kicked out of them. Jesus christ.

Yep, the BIg 12 isn't even the least bit comparable to the Mighty Big Least... I'm glad you corrected me on that matter a few weeks ago Ucunt.

Your point is irrelevant because UW isn't some slappy. Obviously they're a pretty good team if they're playing this weekend.
Choke on some giardiniera, you pin-dicked shitstain.

The ACC decided to go all football?
You might wanna let duke and carolina in on that, although tarheel fans after this season might think it's a good idea.

One big difference, Mucho...
The SEC takes care of business.
:D
The Big East can still make some noise in this tournament, but it ain't looking too impressive so far.
G'Town wasn't impressive at all. There is no excuse for that. Marquette and ND both lost close games that came down to the last shot. 'G'Town finished 8th in the league, ND 7th, and Marquette 5th. If the other teams make a deep run in the tournament, then this will be an afterthought. 'Nova, WVU, and Syracuse are all teams that can get to the elite 8. I doubt Louisville will and Pitt has been a tough team to read lately.

And now #2 seed 'nova bites the dust too. Yeah, it appears painfully obvious that the Big East is extremely overrated and were seeded way too high in the tournament.

Did ucant do the seedings for the tourney? Maybe the rest of the league just wanted to throw all of the pressure on Syracuse to carry the conference banner. They're pretty much stinking up the tourney so far and making a joke of the seedings.

The Big East is a very good conference, just had too many teams improperly seeded. Nova a 2 seed? G'town a 3 seed? Pitt a 3 seed? Come on.

I agree that they got way too much love from the committee but, my God, if they can't beat the low seeded teams, who the hell can they beat?

I'd say that's a fair analysis.
Looking forward to the MSU/MD grudge match tomorrow afternoon. Last night was a little close for comfort for the Spartans.

I'm just waiting for Ucunt to make an appearance and explain just how superior the Big Least is with whopping one or two teams making the sweet 16.
I'll be betting that the Big 12 still has four or five teams playing next weekend (almost certainly at least three) while the Big Least may have as few as just a single team remaining.

Your conference's best team just took it in the ass. You were sayin?
Keep running your cocksucker... obviously, this year's tournament is wide open. Look at all the "upsets."

At the end of the day the Big 12 will still have two teams already with tickets to the sweet 16... The Big least will still be searching for single representative.

Pitt bites the dust. The Big East is finding out that the tourney is a meatgrinder.

Through 2 rounds . . .
Big East: 6-6
Big XII: 7-5
Neither one of them is exactly distinguishing themselves this tournament. (Big East is 1-0 head-to-head vs. Big XII thus far, btw.) Props to the Big 10 (and heaven knows, I'm not a fan of Big 10 basketball) for posting, far and away, the best record among multi-bid conferences thus far: 7-2.
At the end of the day the Big 12 will still have two teams already with tickets to the sweet 16... The Big least will still be searching for single representative.
Huh?

"At the end of the day" is a phrase used in predictions as well.

Terrific. Except for the fact that's
not how it was actually used. In the same fucking sentence he stated the Big 12
already had 2 teams in the Sweet 16. Which was a fact, not a prediction.
FAIL.

Since you asked, 14 seeds who have beaten 3 seeds since the field expanded to 64 in 1985 . . .
1986
Cleveland State beat Indiana
Arkansas-Little Rock beat Notre Dame
1987
Austin Peay beat Illinois
1988
Murray State beat North Carolina State
1989
Siena beat Stanford
1990
Northern Iowa beat Missouri
1991
Xavier beat Nebraska
1992
East Tennessee State beat Arizona
1995
Weber State beat Michigan State
Old Dominion beat Villanova
1997
Tennessee-Chattanooga beat Georgia
1998
Richmond beat South Carolina
1999
Weber State beat North Carolina
2005
Bucknell beat Kansas
2006
Northwestern State beat Iowa
2010
Ohio beat Georgetown
Of the 14 seeds listed above, only Cleveland State and Tennessee-Chattanooga reached the Sweet 16. None reached the Elite 8.

So if my count is correct, 3 seeds are a combined 88-16 in first-round games against 14 seeds since 1985. That's relatively lopsided, but nowhere near as lopsided as 2-15 matchups (100-4) or 1-16 matchups (104-0) over the same time period.
Seems like there should be with all the early departures by NBA prospects. I doubt there are many 14 seeds affected by lottery pics leaving after their sophomore season.
You might think so, but there actually were more 14 vs. 3 upsets awhile back than there are today. And one-and-dones were a lot less common back then.
