Person: when programs start talking about hiring a star player from the glory days, they are in trouble. usually this candidate is radically under-qualified by any objective comparisons. Colorado football has been like that for a decade....a vocal part of the fan base always wants to hire Alfred Williams as the DC or Eric Bienemy as OC or even HC....because they bleed black and gold and they know what it takes to win since they played for Saint Bill McCartney. it's absurd. Al Williams has never coached a day in his life. Bienemy is Adrian Peterson's coach....never called a play in his life but he's gonna return the fire to CU football as HC. people are in to it, but it's a sign of decline.

Rumor has it Tubby Smith will be announced after he's done in the Tourney.
Another Tubby at Auburn?

Alabama was a regular NCAA tourney team under C.M. Newton and Wimp Sanderson. Gottfried even had a couple good years.
Ever heard of Leon Douglas, T.R. Dunn, Charles Cleveland, Reggie King, or Mo Williams? There have been a few good players come through there.
Basketball isn't important at all to a majority of Alabama fans, which makes the relative success of the program over the years somewhat impressive.
Anthony Grant was handed the Florida program after two NCs in a row. If UF was willing to let him take over (until Donovan's change of heart) I think he'll do just fine in Tuscaloosa. 2 years, max. They'll be West champs and regulars at the dance.

I believe he's doing quite well at Coastal Carolina.
Did Crimson Tider just try and preach about his school's fans not being concerned about basketball and then mention "relative success" to Sooner fan?
I have officially heard it all... every time you post for about the last six months you go farther and farther off the deep end of the reality spectrum. Bama hasn't seen the NCAA tourny but 19 times since the tournament began in the 1940s! Its winningest coach in school history couldn't even amass a winning percentage above 70%. Bama has never even sniffed the Final Four... ONE, Elite Eight appearance, ONE!
You might start winning the SEC west? Wow, just wow... I will congratulate that about as much as I congratulate the Horizon, Missouri Valley, or Colonial Champion... The SEC West...
You need a serious reality check there old man... deeply and truly.

AU has hired Tony Barbee from UTEP. DePaul wanted him.
He's already running smack on his old boss John Calipari.
Even Charles Barkley likes him.

Yeah, I seem to recall my team drafting him.
There's no clearcut frontrunner in the "Oregon's next coach" rumor mill, but Tubby's name is coming up a lot.
PJ came on local radio, and kinda publicly declined -- probably a good thing preemptively, since a good portion of Duck fans are also Blazer Fans... and we
hate PJ... still. Freaking D'bag.
Of course, Mark Few is the target -- the Ducks aren't talking about it, but it's obvious. Maybe Zag's disappointing ouster from the Tourney will help sway him back home.
Jamie Dixon is in the mix.
I've heard the name Steve Lavin brought up, but I dunno about that one.
Ken Bone found himself a new big-name job, but maybe he could be persuaded. I think Duck fans would get past the UDub ties, and equate him with the amazing job he did at Portland State.
Whoever it is, if they want a big name, it's looking like they're going to have to pony up way more than the $1.1mil Ernie was getting. Hell, Few makes 1.7 at a hole-in-the-wall.
BUT... all of a sudden, Oregon has what people are saying is going to be the nicest arena in all of CBB. And they already have what's considered the finest training facilities. Plus there's the whole auto-endorsement-deal for any Duck that turns pro. Things could really be shaping up in Eugene -- or it's heading for disaster... one of the two. My bet is on the former, since Money talks, and Oregon's Athletic Dept. has it.

Yeah, but he was replaced by a grizzled old woman with no actual experience in that particular job, so we should be fine.
It's a month-to-month interim contract until they find a suitable replacement.
