yeah, i know, it ain't a sport, but...
...i'm watching the Uconn chicks take yet another opponent to the woodshed. 76 wins in a row.
calhoubn really does need to suit up maya moore next year. she is just fukking ridiculous from 3 point range. 70% for the tournament. 2 fer so far tonight.
And a pre-emptive GYF to the coming pile on. :D

UConn is nothing short of sick. Stanfordmight be able to give them a run for the title but no one else would have a prayer. No need to apologize for the post, smackaholic, women can hoop too.

not this year, mace. they are the single most dominant team I've every seen in D1 collegiate sports. maybe you're old enough to remember wooden's teams with alcindor and walton. they may have been as dominant. maybe.Mace wrote:UConn is nothing short of sick. Stanford was the last team to beat UConn.
UConn is the only team to beat Stanford this year, early in the season, 80-68. It was a competetive game, but UConn pulled away at the end.
Stanford could have a chance but it would take their best effort of the year.
Stanford's best player (38 tonight against OU) is a freshman. Her sister was the national HS player of the year this year and will be playing for Stanford next year. This could turn into a great rivalry.

I saw Maya Moore play for UConn at ND in 08. She was pretty incredible. Tina Charles was the only player on the court who came close to being as good as her.
I used to really enjoy covering WMU women's basketball when I worked for the Kzoo Gazette in 04-05. Mostly because there were a few hot chicks on the team I lusted over, but I appreciated how hard they played. There are no pussies in D-1 women's basketball (figuratively speaking). Also the greatest live basketball moment I've ever seen was a women's game, a Hill-to-Laettner style finish to win a game for WMU. It was incredible.

I'm not predicting a Stanford victory, only saying that Stanford in the only team in the country who has a chance, albeit slim, against UConn. Wooden's teams were just as dominant, btw.smackaholic wrote:not this year, mace. they are the single most dominant team I've every seen in D1 collegiate sports. maybe you're old enough to remember wooden's teams with alcindor and walton. they may have been as dominant. maybe.Mace wrote:UConn is nothing short of sick. i don't see anybody stopping the huskies from getting into triple digits before their winning streak ends. They do lose charles next year, but, that's about it.

I was flipping around the dial Sunday night and happened to catch the U Conn coach, Jeannie Auriemma’s press conference where he whined about having to be “the bad guy”. Rack U Conn for hiring a woman to coach the women’s basketball team.

Yeah. Gotta love the drama and sheer unpredictability of women's college hoops.smackaholic wrote:i don't see anybody stopping the huskies from getting into triple digits before their winning streak ends.

Yeah, my dad was telling me yesterday about how much better he was doing with his women’s bracket than he was with the men’s. I asked him how he made his picks. He said, “I just always took the higher seed”.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:Yeah. Yeah, if a 10 seed beats a 7, that's like Namibia Polytechnic knocking off the L.A. Lakers.

pretty much UConn and Tennessee have won something like 24 of the last 20 titles between them. Looks like maybe Stanford might be taking over the role of Tennessee though. And I think the SEC ownage of chick hoops might be over.

UConn is so good that sometimes they even win 2 titles in the same season.
Even Wooden's Bruins couldn't to that.

BTW...Stanford has won 56 straight against "non-UConn" teams.
Their last two losses were both against UConn, early this season and in last year's semi-final.

Re: yeah, i know, it ain't a sport, but...
Wonder if they will start ducking UConn like Pat Summit started doing a few years back. When the huskie/vol rivalry heated up over the last 15 years or so, they started a very lucrative home and home series. Apparently somebody busted out the SEC constitution and told Pat that the SEC doesn't do road OOC, particularly when it might end in getting drilled. So, she shut it down a few years back.Mikey wrote:BTW...Stanford has won 56 straight against "non-UConn" teams.

Do you know if Stanford and UConn have any regular season plans any time soon?

Don't know. They played at Hartford back in December. Don't see why they would want to duck. UConn leads 2-1 in the past three head to head games, and are pretty much the only team between Stanford and the national title both last year and this year. Losing to them by 12 in an away game at the beginning of the season doesn't exacely diminish their conference or tournament status.smackaholic wrote:Wonder if they will start ducking UConn like Pat Summit started doing a few years back.
