LOS ANGELES – The future Pope Benedict XVI resisted pleas to defrock a California priest with a record of sexually molesting children, citing concerns including "the good of the universal church," according to a 1985 letter bearing his signature.

The correspondence, obtained by The Associated Press, is the strongest challenge yet to the Vatican's insistence that Benedict played no role in blocking the removal of pedophile priests during his years as head of the Catholic Church's doctrinal watchdog office.

The institution as a whole has more or less fallen short on multiple accounts throughout history. I think I read it here when the first big news out of Boston came out several years ago.

People go, and out of the spirit of charity and compassion give their hard earned money to the Church to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, help the sick , etc.. etc..

I have no issue with delusional people who use their delusions as a motivation to help others. And if that is all a Reformed RCC tries to do, then they are cool with me. No getting around that. The church will excomminicate people for making legal, lawful choices, yet they'll simply 'administer' the very worst offenders before God: those who commit heinous crimes in His name.

Those people deserve to be thrown into the general population of any good State Pen. Or just shoot them. Either/or.
