As long as they wouldn't sing, sure, I'd do them.

No, depressing country music is never good.

Chicks look like they need some sleep too....probably been listening to their own music too much.

Why do people sing like that, Sam? Why? Is something wrong with her voice? I mean the weird quavering affectation. It's like that chick singing "Can't cha see the sun going down on our town...on our town"? Sure she's cute--and that's a nice guitar--but if that's how she sings, don't go supposing she's going to somehow magically become sweet, hot, or experimentally tingly once she drops her drawers. Just sayin'

Iris Dement, and her version of Our Town is one of the only country songs I like.

RRRrrrrrriiight. And thus you're in a good position to answer the question--what the fuck causes a human to sing like that? Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette, who else..?...Emmylou Harris? These ladies have graced country music with some decent singing. But c'mon, that can't be Dement's natural voice, is it?

Okay, here's the basic template, the standard by which all female singing is somehow compared..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TB5bii4yUV0

The vid quality is not so good, but the music and performance is sublime.

If women from the hills of Kentucky talk like that, then why not sing like that. Same goes for hip hop/rap I guess, how can they sing that way?

The Carpenters...bland starved looking brother /sister duo, bland fat free music. See where Im going with this?

turd, you and that other homo trampis just don't get it. it's all about personal taste. i kinda like the twangy thing they do as i like classical voice like that opera chick or other types. there is no official type to like. i would think a commie lib like yourself would be into the diversity thing, but, as with other things, you fukks talk the talk, but you don't walk the walk.

as for gold standard voices for me there are two. patsy cline and aretha. patsy has a hauntingly beautiful voice and aretha can just belt out R&B like only a large boned black woman can.

other cool chick voices:

janis joplin- not a classically beautiful voice by any stretch, but, i still like that scratchy voice of hers and the soul she poured into her singing.

madonna- yes, madonna, believe it or not can sing. check out the dick tracy soundtrack.

wynnona- her country singing is OK, but, when she wanders into R&B she is almost aretha like.

Leanne Rimes- closest thing country has produced to patsy cline. saw her live in nashville when she was about 14. amazing voice.

if there is one type of "voice" that deserves every bit of ridicule it gets and then some, it is that pop synthesized effect that is popular in pop music currently. cher was the first one i remember using it, probably because her old ass couldn't get it done any more with her real voice, which, back in the day was pretty damn good.

Alison Krauss, Sarah Brightman, Amy Lee - 3 great singing voices among many.

Last week, War Wagon suggested I put together a set of tunes featuring female vocalists. Tonight seems as good a night as any to do it - tune in for it later.

That's fucking horrid, Sam.

And if we're talking about female singers with downright amazing voices whose music is so dreadful/uninspired/dull to even consider making it through a whole song, I submit for your review one Natalie Merchant.

And she's squandered that beautiful voice singing lullabyes... or I assume that's what they are, since they put me to sleep in about 20 seconds.
