Dio has been fighting stomach cancer. Not an easy way to go. I e-mailed his son Dan as soon as I heard and got an immediate response. I hope Cortland NY can see fit to do more than this.
Wonder if the Rock & Roll HOF may have a place for Ronnie Padavona.

My reaction exactly.... when I realized today who and what had been lost. I seldom ever click on a thread that has 'deathpool' in the topic title and was hoping that it was about Diogenes. Fuck.
Well, better late than never.
Van, what's up with Richie Blackmore these days? I hope he ain't dead too. Check out the 3:00 to 3:15 mark and tell me just how fucking great that is.
Nice clips yourself, btw.

Good call on that one. That's one of his tastier solos, and it's hardly ever mentioned.
The thing I love about Blackmore is that he always sounds like he's playing a Strat, even despite his crushing volume and decent amount of gain. So many other guys who use Strats with Marshalls - much less the higher gain Engls he came to use later in his career - tend to swap out the single coils for full-sized humbuckers. You rarely get to hear a single coil bridge p/up with high gain, yet Blackmore almost never deviated from it. Because of this, he always had a particularly biting, unique tone, and his attack seemed to be shaped by that tone.
Though this video truly sucks, this is my favorite Blackmore piece. This is everything I love about his playing, even his sparse rhythm work...
As for what Blackmore is doing now? No, he ain't dead, though you may wish he were once you find out what he's doing now.
Dude, for the last few years Ritchie fucking Blackmore has been donning woolen tights and playing Celtic-tinged folk rock with some - admittedly smokin' hot - chick at...hold on to your ass...
...Renaissance Faires!
Yep, that huge tone and all that cool ouevre of Deep Purple-era Ritchie Backmore has been supplanted by retards hawking windchimes and fat, tatted-up chicks in bustiers eating roast mutton between days spent telemarketing.

Good call. A few years back, I went to a Toronto Blue Jays game (non-sequitur will make sense momentarily), and all the players were being introduced by a snippet of music they had picked out. Ed Sprague picked out this song, and it was the only one I recognized. I became an Ed Sprague fan that day.

From what I've heard, Blackmore and Ian Gillan can't stand each other, to the point where they can't even be in the same room together. Sad, really, when you think about what might have been otherwise.
Of course, that, by itself, hardly accounts for the latest bizarre career twist. The "admittedly smokin' hot chick" is his wife. Love, as the saying goes, is deaf, dumb and blind. Well, maybe not blind in Blackmore's case, but definitely certifiable.
Toddowen wrote:Fellah I worked with claimed Blackmore is a real prick. He was at a youth soccer game somehwere around NYC which their sons were playing in. He said Blackmore was worse than the typical Little League parent as far as shouting the most tasteless and vulgar obscentities at the opposing players.
And this guy is a huge Blackmore fan. "Awesome guitarist/ Classless asshole " was how he described him.
Sounds about right, from what I've heard. An officer I knew in the Navy told me he had been to see the Deep Purple concert in '74 (he was a few years older than me). He said Blackmore played the entire show with his back to the audience.
About as arrogant as it gets, although I guess I have to rack him in a twisted way for that. I couldn't have pulled that off even if I wanted to -- sooner or later, curiosity would've gotten the better of me.

That must explain why you married a gorilla. Better hurry up and take out the trash before she wrenches your arm from its socket and beats you to death with it.

Those maybe some gay ass fairs he is playing, but from the looks of the crowds, he is probably picking up a pretty good check for that gig.

Of course, mvscal makes Blackmore look like strictly a piker. And not as a guitarist.

I saw Blackmore once, back around 1972 right after Machine Head came out. Deep Purple with Uriah Heep as the backup. Nice show, from what I can remember.

Uriah Heep will be in concert here at the Ameristar casino June 25th.
I may not be able to resist that.

Saw Deep Purple a couple-few years ago. Steve Morse instead of Blackmore. Morse is clearly the far superior guitar player, but DP is better with Blackmore. Their sound is his sound.

When these clowns picket funerals, does anybody ever just walk up and punch them in the face? If not...why the hell not?

Bullshit. Westboro Baptists are the biggest pussies in America. They would take what licks they were given and beg fearfully for more.

Satan will enjoy ass-raping all of those cunts in Hell. JerkDik will be there to fondle his beanbag appreciatively as his skin blackens.

No, but the two guys behind them wearing guns and badges might have to haul you in. And if there is anything that would ruin a funeral it would be getting run in for an assault rap.
I guarantee those WBC clowns wouldn't get away with that shit in my hometown. I also hope I don't ever have to find out, because that would mean one of your boys bought it. And so far we've been lucky.
BTW: Check out their "picket schedule". Here's a sample.
City Bible Church 9200 NE Fremont WBC to picket these faux christians who call themselves a Bible Church as they disobey God with every breath. Your pastor is a liar! His wife's hair is cropped off, showing she is not in subjection to her husband and is in full rebellion against God!
Sorry to break the bad news to you. But at least you can focus your full wrath on the WBC folks now.
Some of us came across the Landover Baptist site more than a dozen years ago. I believe Fester and I found a link whilst trolling the Betty Bowers website.
