Immanuel meaning = God with us
God made the promise that He would be with believers.
Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive,
and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Matthew 10:1-20 is one fulfillment of this promise.
v.1 - And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power
against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and
all manner of disease
v. 14,15 - And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye
depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha
in the day of judgment, than for that city.
v. 19,20 - for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.
For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.
Man has no power apart from his Creator and he will meet a limit and fail utterly and eternally.
But God is absolutely with the believers - by both His spirit that lives within us and also by His Word, which is living and active - Hebrews 4:12.
God's Word is a PHENOMENAL thing, the most important thing.
It is the very Word of CREATION.
And it is the only Word by which man may live.
Hence the sober warning for those who refuse to hear His Word of Life - v. 14, 15.
