Ok so maybe not T1B, but I will, and as such I will take your opinions on AA, Outland Trophy (Nation's Best Interior Lineman) and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (National Defensive Player of the Year).
How is this? Well I am the newest member of the Football Writers Association of America. I will post screen shots and pictures of ballots etc during the year.
I am thinking the RICE Owls should dominate the AA team.

Rack that, Lefty. Any special privileges with FWAA membership? I.E. free food?

Well, it’s an association of writers, so you’d have to be able to write coherently. Take real good care of that mop.

Are you a radio broadcaster? If not, what's your point? Besides, I doubt that you speak any better than you write.

Do you have to be a writer? No.
Do you have to cover college football? Yes.
Granted "writers" is in the title but the association has expanded to include broadcast media also. For the most part the local guys you hear on the "team" broadcast are not members since they see only their team and its opponents. The ESPN broadcast guys are members, as are the guys you hear on Westwood One, etc.
Any perks? Depends, if you count having a vote for AA, and post season awards as a perk. The food is free at some schools for media, RICE, UT, Oregon State, Florida State. Some charge you, Cougar High, Washington, Iowa State, Iowa. I understand both sides of the arguement. Some see it as buying positive coverage, others see it as part of being a good host. Frankly I don't care one way or the other. Now if they had vodka...

is food ever a perk? i mean, isn't it all just chicken fingers and other bar food? my only experience was being in nd's press box, as well as quite a few games in the various detroit sport venues. i'm there with you on the vodka tip. either way, proppers on the vote.

Of course food is a perk. How did those free $5 Little Caesars Hot-N-Readys treat you at Joe Louis?
Food of course is now no longer the perk it was when I was traveling the sports beat as a young man, but it can help. Irregular hours, lots of time in the car, food options are always a big plus. U-M hockey always had a nice "spread." The catered shit at the Joe was deece. Van Andel always had good shit for their NCAA games. At Western we always got the cheap and shitty Jimmy Jackers subs for hockey. At least we got free canned Coke as well. We also had catered Damon's at football games. That was probably the best spread for press I ever experienced at a D-1A football game.
