Abby's father struggled with emotions and said he didn't know if his daughter was in a life raft or aboard the boat, or whether the boat was upside down.
"Everything seemed to be under control," Laurence Sunderland said. "But then our call dropped and a hour later the Coast Guard called."
File under "things we should have thought about before letting our little girl sail around the world."
The word on the Indian Ocean is that if you go overboard during daylight, in calm seas, you're done. It's pretty much whitecaps from Australia to Africa, so even if you have a beacon, your chances of getting spotted are zero.
Doesn't really matter in this case though. This chick went into the water in 60ft seas in the IO at night? Buh-bye.
Obviously this must be the fault of: George W Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Haliburton, BP Oil, Blackwater, the Tea Partiers, Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Ronald Reagan, the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, the Pro-lifers, Rush Limbaugh, and the Republican National Committee; and not necessarily in that order. There really is no other possibility since there is no such thing as an accident.
And now for Morgan and Morgan to represent the poor victim in this horrible plot with a huge law suit that will make her family whole once again.

So you're pretty sure the government should be paying for this?
as todd said, these fukking boats are pretty much unsinkable. if you get into some nasty shit, you drop your sails, barren your hatches, set off your beacon and wait for the cavalry to show up.
rack this little girl for having a serious pair of balls.
I'm glad she was rescued. It would have hurt me to have had to play the "I wonder what song she was listening to when she went for an unexpected swim" card.
