Is there a tourney this week or something?

You know the rules -- your official pick must be in one week from today... unless you're busy, then later next week.
Or unless BEN CRANE's win comes via playoff, then it might be Thursday afternoon.

Lefty steps to the 18th tee on Sunday leading by 2 and needing only to avoid the world's largest lateral water hazard to cash in his first US Open...
Which means the winner will be Sean O'Hair.

Did I miss anyone?

Lee Westwood.

If by "Lee Westwood," you mean "Ben Crane," then it's a fine pick.
Actually, if you did indeed mean Lee Westwood -- I'd say going with the #3 in the world rankings probably ain't a bad call, despite his allergy to the USA.

He's been playing well in the US this year, and he's due. Ben Crane, I mean.

On the technical side...
What do you guys think about some of the more accurate, shorter hitters' chances?
At 7040 yards, it's not a ridiculously long track. Does this give guys like Furyk an advantage? Tim Clark? And that's kinda Ben Crane's game, as well.
Or, if the winds kick up, how about a low-baller, pound-the-apron-and-roll-it-up player like say... Goose? I seem to recall him having a modicum of success playing thatway in the US Open... albeit on different style courses.
Ernie ain't swinging too badly these days... and I also recall him having some minor success in the USO.
Then again, if the rough is ugly, there's this one Cablinasian guy that used to be the best scrambler known by man... but he appears a little rusty these days. Swinging through 6" rough with 120MPH club speed sounds like a good way to break one's neck.

Man with a concensus like this, how can the guy possibly lose?

He'll surely feel the love, and run away with it.
We'll have a good idea after he finishes his second round on Monday.

Sorry I am a little late to the party...but I did take Ben Crane in my US Open fantasy deal...of course missing the cut I have to go with someone else...
I'll go with some guy named Eldrick...

I'd say so...quite the finish. Hopefully tomorrow sets up nicely. Enjoying the late night East coast viewing.

The first two days were hard to watch. Having Chris Berman do the US Open is like having Soupy Sales cover Princess Di’s funeral. Hole number 17 is wicked.

Awesome.
Although I can deal with Berman... having him there isn't a completely heinous offense.
But I don't care what sporting event it is... if Costas is there, the mute button comes into play.
Because it doesn't freaking matter what the venue is, that blabbering blowhard will make some reference to the pitch count The Great Babe Ruth faced in the 1927 World Series, and somehow compare it to whatever is happening at the particular sporting event he's
trying to convince us how smart he is "announcing."

I think I'm liking that McDowell guy. Although as far as US Open drama was concerned, that back nine left me flat. Nothing like watching some of the best players in history thow up all over themselves down the back nine. Seriously, did Eldrick, Ernie or Phil even WANT to win? If any one of them had posted a 70, they would have walked away with the title. And Dustin Johnson? WTF? Jason Gore at Pinehurst thinks you ought to release the grip already.
Oh well, The Open Championship is a month away. Maybe that will be more entertaining.

can I still take Ben Crane? If not then Graeme McDowell

Johnson's meltdown was akin to a train accident.....you want to turn away, but simply can't....
McDowell was solid down the stretch and big props to him on sailing a steady ship (albeit less than spectacular) while those around him were capsizing
the difficulty of Holes 14 and 17 is fucking ridiculous, but I derive a certain sense of satisfaction watching the best players in the world look like weekend hackers

Golf is about the only sport the fanbase accepts this reasoning. Imagine a football or basketball game as sloppy as that. No one could appreciate it like golf.

I agree Felix...I mean I kind of tire of tournies where -14 to -20 (like Phoenix, etc) win...I like to see these fucks go +1 or so for a weekend...what the fuck...you guys are PROS right?
Indy - if a football or baseball game is ugly (say a muddy football game)...they are pros and do what they have to do to win...it might not be pretty but they do it...yeah the announcers talk about how so and so didn't do this or that...but that is their fucked up reasoning...
ONE weekend a year it is nice to see these guy hack it up...bring em back to earth more often I say...

It may not have read that way, but I was agreeing with Felix. I like to see them struggle. I was just saying other sports' fans don't tolerate it. Understandably so since none of us really play football, baseball or basketball aside from the gym rat who does a few hoops pick me up games. Even then, rarely does anyone watch an NBA game that ends 72-58 and enjoy how both teams struggled.
Oh, and before someone else does it...

Or find the highest cliff and jump off of it. Well, that would be my advice to you.
