He and my Aunt had a panoramic view that included four bridges. Just simply gorgeous and something that you can't put a price on. Look, a couple of hookers and their pimp slugging it out in a fast food parking lot is not what's really going on in Oakland. This is:

OAKLAND, CA (KGO) -- Investigators are trying to figure out where a man was heading Saturday with guns and body armor, when he got into a shootout with CHP officers on I-580 in Oakland.

In the meantime, FBI agents are looking into 45-year-old Byron Williams' background and the contents of his controversial diary which was seized after the shooting.

When Williams was arrested he was in possession of a high-powered rifle, a shotgun and a handgun. Authorities say he had enough ammunition on him to kill at least 50 people, but it was a notebook that brought the FBI into the picture. The contents of the notebook are still unknown, but information provided by his mother indicates he had a very serious problem with what he considered to be liberals and what they were doing to the United States.

A police robot retrieved the notebook from the shootout scene on westbound I-580 west of Grand Avenue. Its contents have the federal government joining Oakland police and the California Highway Patrol in the investigation. Authorities will not say what they believe Williams' plans were or where he was headed prior to the shootout with CHP officers early Sunday morning, but they say he was intent on hurting many people.

"The FBI is also involved because there are some circumstances surrounding his charges and his behavior that they're going to look into as well," said CHP Sgt. Trent Cross. "He may be facing some federal charges."

Home video posted on YouTube provides a glimpse into the 15-minute long gun battle where more than 100 rounds of ammunition were fired.

"It sounded like it was an all out gunfire war," recalled witness Anna Scott. "I mean, it was back and forth, back and forth. You could just hear it."

Williams was behind the wheel about midnight Saturday when a CHP officer stopped him for weaving and speeding. The CHP says when an officer approached to tell Williams to pull off the freeway, he grabbed a handgun and started firing.

"It was like something you'd see out of a movie," Cross said. "Just shell casing everywhere. Patrol car windows were disintegrated, just blown out. We're very fortunate that none of our officers were either seriously hurt or killed."

Williams was shot numerous times, but he was wearing body armor. He is now in stable condition. Two officers were slightly injured by flying glass from blown out windows.

Williams' mother, who lives next door to her son in Groveland in Tuolumne County, says, "He's been upset with the direction the country is going. He feels the people of this country are being raped by our government and politicians."

"He's a two-striker, so if convicted, this could be his third strike and he could be put away for a long time. This is definitely somebody that doesn't belong in society with the rest of us because he's a very dangerous individual," Cross told ABC7.

Video Shows USDA Official Saying She Didn't Give 'Full Force' of Help to White Farmer

Days after the NAACP clashed with Tea Party members over allegations of racism, a video has surfaced showing an Agriculture Department official regaling an NAACP audience with a story about how she withheld help to a white farmer facing bankruptcy -- video that now has forced the official to resign.

Shirley Sherrod, the department's Georgia director of Rural Development, is shown in the clip describing "the first time I was faced with having to help a white farmer save his farm." Sherrod, who is black, claimed the farmer took a long time trying to show he was "superior" to her. The audience laughed as she described how she determined his fate.

"He had to come to me for help. What he didn't know while he was taking all that time trying to show me he was superior to me was I was trying to decide just how much help I was going to give him," she said. "I was struggling with the fact that so many black people have lost their farmland and here I was faced with having to help a white person save their land -- so I didn't give him the full force of what I could do. I did enough."

The Agriculture Department announced Monday, shortly after FoxNews.com published its initial report on the video, that Sherrod had resigned.

OAKLAND ---- After weathering the fear of federal prosecution and competition from drug cartels, California's medical marijuana growers see a new threat to their tenuous existence: the "Walmarting" of weed.

The Oakland City Council on Tuesday will look at licensing four production plants where pot would be grown, packaged and processed into items ranging from baked goods to body oil. Winning applicants would have to pay $211,000 in annual permit fees, carry $2 million worth of liability insurance and be prepared to devote up to 8 percent of gross sales to taxes.

The move, and fledgling efforts in other California cities to sanction cannabis cultivation for the first time, has some marijuana advocates worried that regulations intended to bring order to the outlaw industry and new revenue to cash-strapped local governments could drive small "mom and pop" growers out of business. They complain that industrial-scale gardens would harm the environment, reduce quality and leave consumers with fewer strains from which to choose.

"Nobody wants to see the McDonald's-ization of cannabis," Dan Scully, one of the 400 "patient-growers" who supply Oakland's largest retail medical marijuana dispensary, Harborside Health Center, grumbled after a City Council committee gave the blueprint preliminary approval last week. "I would compare it to how a small business feels about shutting down its business and going to work at Walmart. Who would be attracted to that?"

The proposal's supporters, including entrepreneurs more disposed to neckties than tie-dye, counter that unregulated growers working in covert warehouses or houses are tax scofflaws more likely to wreak environmental havoc, be motivated purely by profit and produce inferior products.

A California man arrested after a freeway shootout with authorities was planning to attack people at the American Civil Liberties Union and another nonprofit group, authorities said Tuesday.

Byron Williams, 45, was upset with the ACLU and Tides Foundation for their political views, Oakland police Officer Jeff Thomason said.

Williams told investigators he was on his way to San Francisco late Saturday when California Highway Patrol officers pulled him over on Interstate 580.

Authorities say Williams, wearing a bulletproof vest and armed with three guns, opened fire.

He was arrested after sustaining gunshot wounds to his arms and legs after a 15-minute gun battle with CHP officers.

Williams said during police interviews at the hospital that he wanted to "start a revolution by traveling to San Francisco and killing people of importance at the Tides Foundation and the ACLU," according to a probable cause statement filed with the court.

Authorities said Williams has shown a deep-rooted anger for left-leaning politics.
