DING DING DING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have a winnah!!!!!!!!!!

I found it funny that the winner had less fat and far less sodium. I guess shutyomouth still has to make the difficult choice of taste or maintiaining his figure.

You go to Popeye's for the SPICY chicken, just like you don't get Extra Crispy at KFC.

The survey is rigged.

Couldn't agree more.

Popeye's is significantly better than KFC... and since I'm not eating it for the health benefits, I don't care about the fat/sodium content.

FWIW, I have not set foot in or sampled anything from KFC or Popeye's in the past 12-15 years. If I had a hankering for fried chicken, I'd call the local merchant of greasy death known around here as Rickey's Corner. It's fantastic, but my knowledge of great fried chicken is obviously limited. Either way, I'd still go there for the potato wedges.

Best part. No glutten-free menu. Hell, they probably throw some glutten on the shit that doesn't have any.

Never had Popeye's and I won't go into KFC, seeing as how Rosa's is a couple of doors down from the local barf bucket, and has the best damn Mexican food north, south, east or west of the Pecos.

Yep.

Strouds is the KC equivalent of Gates BBQ when it comes to fried chicken... though my wife can cook a mean fried chicken.

Kinda' like sex and backrubs, home cooked fried chicken is getting harder to come by in my trailer.

Went to the local Popeyes once. Saw one of the counter staff repeatedly digging around her nose in full view of customers. The place looked like a fucking dump. I turned and left.

Care to name any fast food chain that outdoes their mom&pop/local chain counterpart?

So I've heard, just aren't any out North or I woulda' tried it by now. But that's ok, because there is the original Smokehouse BBQ out here which also blows away Gates. Best beans on the planet and the pork ribs are to die for.

Damn, I'm getting hungry.....

mahmooley?

that's good. i'll have to remember that one.

kfc needs to shoot the fukker that came up with x-crispy. it is the suck. frozen shit from the grocery store is better. OR has always been a favorite of mine. I'm sure there is some little old colored lady in jaw-guh that makes much better of course.

'spray,

you fukks might be the kings of FC, but, i would bet that our level of suck at FC is nowhere close to your level of suck at pizza. took me 2 years to find a decent pie in nashville when i lived there. some dude at work finally directed me to a place near david lipscomb U where the fukkers running the place greeted you in badly broken english, heavy on the dago accent. a pertty good rule of thumb when ordering eyetalian in the south is if the waitress greets you with "how y'all doin?" and asks if you'd like some sweet tea with it, just get up and walk out.

I seldom watch the Food Channel or any of the other food/cooking shows, but a friend of mine in NOLA said that one of those shows rates the best places in the country to get whatever food they’re featuring (pizza, hamburgers, sushi…whatever). Apparently, the show rated a place called Willie Mae’s Scotch House as the place to get the country’s best fried chicken. So we went there a few months ago, and I gotta say it’s tough to disagree with the show’s assessment. They serve up some damn tasty yardbird. The joint’s only open for lunch – from 11 am to 2 pm – and is in one of the seedier parts of NOLA, near Treme. It’s small and definitely unpretentious, but folks flock to it. If you’re ever hungry in The Big Easy and don’t mind taking the risk of entering the ‘hood, I’d recommend giving it a shot.

This is what Spray is all about...

As for fried chicken, I prefer to make my own because I mix in a shitload of garlic powder and cayenne pepper into the batter. I like to let my chicken soak in buttermilk for 24 hours before cooking it. And I like to make it extra crispy. That being said, I prefer the Popeye's hot over the KFC original recipe simply because it is closer to the type of chicken I prefer. Too many times, I've had original recipe and it was all soggy and shit. Fuck that.

There's no KFC or Popeye's around here. There's a Grandys that the only time I would ever eat that was if I was at a function they catered. I really can't stand their chicken though. When I want chicken, I go to The Chicken Place.

You aint e't fried chicken 'til you've e't Strouds.

All the other chicken joints in this country fry theirs just to figure out who has second best.

We got a place called Fryar Tuck's. Used to be a chain when I was a kid, now there's one.

But pretty deece chicken. Shitload better than the chains, anyway.

So, last night... a friend owed a couple of us a favor, and wanted to take us to dinner. A total of 4 fairly large men decided they were reallllly hungry... side-of-beef-hungry. So, I went where the "bus" took me...

Hometown Buffet.

It's been a while... not that I haven't done the Homey on many an occasion, since I live across the street from one, and they send me some cool coupons...

But really -- the food doesn't really warrant a trip, even at half price (although $6 for 12 pounds of crappy food ain't bad).

We came to a consensus -- Hometown upgraded their food quality... not too tough a feat.

But the relevance here -- all 4 of us had the fried chicken. All 4 of us said the same thing -- "What the holy fuck? This fried chicken is excellent... WTF???"

So obviously, it was fresh from the fryer. But the quality of chicken (frozen Arkansas shit, I'm sure) was deece. The batter was crispy and tasty, and it was actually really good.

It kind of made us feel... guilty. Wasn't expecting that.

Matter of fact, went into the place with such low expectations, we were all pleasantly suprised.

So, in conclusion...

I still don't recommend Hometown Buffet (Buffets Inc.).

If you do go, load up on the fried chicken and salad.
