summer is over ?

Of course not really until the autumnal equinox on September 23rd (sup Dins) but Labor Day has recently been used as the end of summer for all practical purposes. Kids are either in school or going back. People in the north look forward to winter--sort of. Good bye summer. Oh, and what better way than to salute the end of summer with the Beach Boys.

There are many ways to define the seasons.
Scientifically and logically, by the earth's orbit.
For convenience we often use the calendar months...summer = June, July and August. The traditional notion of of Memorial Day through Labor Day pretty much lines up with this and gives us a long weekend at each end to celebrate.
Schools that run on the quarter system pretty much define it however they want. My kids will both be starting the Fall
Quarter on 9/23.
Around here, the nicest weather tends to be in September and October. The days are still warm, the nights are getting cooler, but still warm enough to leave the windows open all night. The tourists are gone and the kids are in school.
Couldn't ask for a nicer day today. Mid 70s, sunny, and I'm about to go out and swim my laps before friends come over for a bbq.

We can always count on Sirfindafold to have the right attitude.

Same thing. Except that they're cold in the summer and warm in the winter.

That's all just theory - you can't prove it.
Sin,

Sorry, pal. Let's see if this helps you:

Truman will agree they may flush counterclockwise or they may not, but You can't prove it - it's just a theory.
Yet at some point you just become grateful when they do, indeed,
flush.

What is this "flush" you speak of? Is that a new way to describe digging another hole in the ground?
Sincerely,

Don't Australians, for example, regard December, January, and February as the hottest months of "summer"?

Signs that summer may be over:
- The hottie waitress with the perky little teets smiles at you ... and asks you if you'd like your senior discount
- Your forehead mass now exceeds that of E. Monster
- You wear your belt over your boiler and your man-tits nearly rub against it
- Wolfman posts make a lot of sense
- You wish you could be as cool as Ricardo Montalban
- Getting "lucky" means you found your car keys
- Every news anchor looks like he should be your son/daughter
- "Feeling your oats" means it's bowel movement time
- There's no question in your mind, but plenty of drool in your cup
