Its because the south has a massive inferiority complex and the only thing that they have ever been good at down there is college football so all of them gravytrain off of one another to try to get over being extremely fucked up at everything else.

If it's the conference superiority complex that gets under everyone's skin, I have a humble suggestion:

Maybe "y'all" (I use "you guys" myself, partly because of where I grew up, but also partly because I used to live in the South, it gets under their skin as much as "y'all" gets under Yankees' skin) should become independent, same as the school I root for. No more conferences, no more conference superiority arguments.

As for the initial question posed, I grew up hating Alabama as a ND fan following the '73 Sugar Bowl and '75 Orange Bowl (actually consecutive seasons, the Sugar Bowl was played on New Years' Eve back then). Having a coach who sounded like he had marbles in his piehole didn't help their cause in my eyes, either. But then they were down for awhile, so I found other targets for hate. Strange as it sounds, I don't really hate Saban, I was even lobbying for ND to give him a long hard look last offseason.
