Wow...rack Comcast!

This might be the first ever RACK COMCAST in the history of cable television. I had a pretty high cable bill this month from cable and internet and the internet was the highest speed available. I saw they were also running a promo of $20/month for broadband. On Demand has also not been working here for the last month, and while I don't make extensive use of On Demand, I do enjoy watching Aqua Teen. So being the scrupulous capitalist I am, I called tonight and told the guy because I wasn't getting the full value of my cable package, I was thinking of canceling my cable but might keep it if they cut me a break. In all my prior experiences with Comcast, they never cut me any breaks.

But the dude puts me on the cable tier with more channels, but costs $20/less per month. I also asked to be moved down to the $20/month internet tier. Dude had absolutely no problems making shit happen.

So now I'm on the initial promo rate for cable/internet that they "only" give new connecting customers and I cut my $150 cable/internet bill in half to $75.

Rack me, rack capitalism and OMG rack Comcast! Rack Jefferson Starship, too.

Many cable/phone/ISP's have retention policies like the one you got.

If you push hard enough, they'll bend. But be prepared to have your service terminated if you bluff them by saying you want to cancel because of terrible service. Sometimes they'll call the odd customer on it.

P.S.

You are a cheap cunt, Screwey.
I'm glad we don't work together, seeing as how, if you drew my name during the office's Secret Santa Christmas gift exchange, I'd probably get a half-eaten Snickers bar or rainbow shoe laces.

Fuck you.

Fuck Comcast.

RACK you.

A few years back, a buddy of mine used to play Comcast against the satellite proveders against each other (I should have done the same). Every time a newest, greatest newdeal came, he'd call his current provider and tell them he was fropping them in favor of the Latest Greatest Deal, and he'd always get the cut-rate.

Verizon FIOS kicks the shit out of Comcast any day of the week-

For $79/month I get:

Expanded Digital Tier including NFL, MLB Network, BBC, STARZ, Showtime movie package
HD DVR
25up/down Internet service
Home phone (which I don't use)

Is that a promo rate or the regular rate? Sounds like a good deal, but we don't have FIOS in SW DC, yet. With RCN also a predominant provider here in DC, we have Comcast, RCN and Verizon covering much of the area, so much of DC has two providers to choose from. But unfortunately here in SW, we only have Comcast for cable service as of now.

Promo rate for a year without a contract. Not sure if this is true but I was told that when you are a current customer and attempt to get your cable company to match the price or promo that is being offered by a competitor to new customers, your company is prohibited from offering the same promo to you and can only offer you an alternate promo (free HBO for a month etc..)

I have qwest (switched from Charter after they jacked up their rates) and I must say, for 39.95 a month, I'm happy. But, then again, I pay $53.00 bucks in addition for Dishnetwork.

If I keep the movie package? Probably $120 maybe a bit more? I really don't need a movie package since it's far cheaper to stream Net Flix so after 12 months I'll drop the crap I don't need.

We have Insight, similar to comcast. 3 HD/DVR, no extra movie channels, HD Channel Pack, and high speed internet. $155/month. I figure it is a total ripoff, but with as many TVs we have in the house, it would not be worth getting satellite due to the number of receivers we'd need. At least with cable, I have the 3 main TVs (bedroom, family room, basement) with the HD-DVR and the rest of the cable outlets in the house get standard cable. 11 standard cable and 3 HD-DVR. 14 receivers for satellite would be the suck.

Do you own 14 TVs... or just have 14 cable outlets? Is seems like there's one in every room. Do you watch TV in the shitter?

No, I have 14 tvs. Kitchen, Family Room, Bedroom, Master Bath, Basement Bedroom, Basement Laundry Room, Basement Main Room, Basement Bar, Upstairs Loft, Son's Room, Daughter's Room, Kids Playroom, 2 in my Garage. Baby #3 on the way and that room will eventually get one. We're going to put one out by the pool too so that would eventually be 16 so yeah, that many receivers would be the suck.

That still beats the shit out of what I get. I do have unlimited long distance (US), but still - that includes no movie channels and/or no HD DVR.

It would only figure that Cox is sucking me off.

The laundry room in the basement is actually a storage/laundry room. I used to have the treadmill in there too. The main laundry room on the main floor has no tv. We originally put the tv in the basement laundry room so we could watch tv while on the treadmill. As for the kids rooms, did you not have a tv in your room growing up? Hell, I love on weekends popping a DVD in their TVs and being able to get a couple hours of chores done around the house without the constant bugging of one of them. As for the garage, it's my mancave, and you can't have that without a TV. Of course, the basement is now where I spend most of my evenings because it is summer. Come winter time, I go back out to the garage. Though, now that I have high def in the basement, I may not spend as much time in the garage. It is nice though in the garage when I watch a movie because I have my old surround sound equipment down there and I can listen as loud as I want without having the wife tell me to turn it down. The basement system moves the plates in the cabinets when I turn it up.

Jizzmopper without tv in room says kids with tvs in room lead to jizzmopping. :?:

Exactly. Never had a TV in my room. Neither did my siblings or any of my kids.

Thanks so much for your contribution to our nation's future population, characterized by incipient useless dumbfuckery.

Mikey,

I'm pretty sure my kids will grow up to be very successful contributors to society. And by that, I mean both in the work they provide and the high level of taxes they'll have to hand over to these useless wastes of dumbfuckery you speak of.

Nope, never had a TV. Never even considered asking for one or even buying one with my own money since I knew what the answer would be. Besides, the kids should be doing the chores.

IF would rather have the kids disappear than actually have to "parent" them.

No doubt they'll grow up to be self-absorbed silver spoon-fed trust fund whores.

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

What chores would you have a 2 and 4 year old do? Only thing I make them do is pick up their mess at the end of the day, brush their teeth and on homemade pizza night, they make their own pizza. Both are potty trained and sleep through the night in their own bed.

Some of us have the burden of working 50+ hours a week and weekends are the only time I can mow the lawn, clean the pool, pull the weeds, fix the "wahtever the fuck is broken", clean the house, do the laundry, etc. Having the kids to watch a movie or play in their play room while I get shit done for a couple hours is an act of not parenting? Please....

Guess I could hire a maid and a gardener so I can be a better parent. :meds: When the kids are old enough, they will do their fair share just as I did. Pretty sure your boy isn't out push-mowing your lawn these days.

RACK you for shouldering that burden.
