Did anyone happen to notice....

Call got bitch slapped by Nevada 52-31.

Not that M2 would show his face in here following a loss, but damn did they get rolled.

Nevada looked good all night but I kept expecting Cal's "superior" speed and talent level to take over. But all is good for the lil Teddy Bears as the glory that is the bay area and cotton candy canyon awaits their return.

I caught glimpses of the game at a Texas Tech bar of all places. Between the 50-somethings awkwardly dancing to top 40 hits and Cal getting Cal'd, it was pretty solid entertainment.

all of which highlights how dreadful Colorado was last week. CU homer boards are in freefall. In fact, Nevada has put a ton of hurt on both of Colorado's opponents: CSU and Cal.

Nevada might be the team to beat Boise this season. They looked very impressive last night.

Yes.

I've been thinking lately that the Pac got it wrong when they asked the Buffs to join. If money sports and geography were the only consideration, the Wolfpack would be a better fit than CU. Mackay Stadium only seats about 30K, but the Buffs don't draw that at Folsum unless the Huskers are in town - and Big Red fan snaps up all the available seating. Just as many TV sets in Vegas as there are in Denver - not that anybody watches CFB* in those towns anyway...

*Edit: Outside of a sports book that is. I'n not sure if those televisions are considered in the ratings anyway. What I do know is that you cannot place a legal bet on any Nevada sports team...

S'what I said before the season began a few weeks ago to all the college football hounds at work. They all laughed at me because they don't know shit about the 2nd teir schools.

I told them Collin Kaepernick is one of the most underrated dual threat QBs in the country and he posessed the skills to take down Boise St once conference play was in full force.

We all collectively watched Nevada steamroll Cal last night in the control room via channelsurfing.net and they all kinda turned to me and sucked my cock with their eyes after seeing what Kaepernick was capable of.

As soon as I saw the line was so close, I kinda figured Cal was going to get shithammered. It was a good day to work late.

I'm not going to offer up any excuses about the Buffs' atrocious on-field product in recent years, because frankly, there are none. But if you think Nevada would really have been a better addition to the Pac than CU, you either incredibly short-sighted, flat-out ignorant, or both. First of all, Denver (#16 TV market, 1.5 mil households) is more than twice the size of Las Vegas (#42, 720k households). Second, Nevada doesn't even play in LV. They play in fucking Reno (#108, 270k). I'm not saying there are zero Nevada fans in Vegas, but there's probably a helluva lot more UNLV fans, don'tcha think?

Finally, Nevada doesn't even come close to having the CFB cache that CU brings to the table. They're the 21st winningest team in CFB history (they were in the Top 20 before Hawkins showed up). I'm not sure if you saw any highlights from today's game, but if you did, you probably noticed that CU's uniforms looked a little different. That's because they're throwbacks commemorating CU's 1990 MNC team. Now I realize that hanging your hat on one MNC from 20 years ago (and a shared one at that), might seem comical to fans of OU, NU, Bama, USC, et al. But it's still a greater accomplishment than most current FCS schools can claim (including Mizzou, just for the record). CU was mere percentage points away from playing for another MNC as recently as 9 years ago, but then they have a "recruiting scandal" that results in exactly one minor charge, they throw Barnett under the bus, make one really, really bad hire, have a few shitty seasons, and suddenly, everyone's ready to write them off as has-beens.

It's hilarious when people say that the Pac should've taken teams like Boise or Nevada. Those teams are as good as they're ever going to get right now, but what are the odds they could sustain that success playing in the Pac 12? If Colorado makes the right hire this off-season, there's no reason why they can't be right back in the thick of the MNC race in 4-6 years.

If my choices are a 5th down MNC versus not even winning an outright conference championship since 1960, I'll take the former every time.

but in all fairness, it was CAL after all
no doubt though, Nevada is not a team to be trifled with

Relax, Mike.

Just a throw-away comment on the competitivess of Nevada on the playing field and the hardwood the past few years, and the lack thereof at CU. I've got no bitch what-so-ever with your school (5th Down excepted), and I'm not about to disparage your history. It's a beautiful campus in a beautiful town located in a beautiful state. Why the football program has pretty much gone tits-up after McCartney left is ponderous... I would think Boulder to be one of the easiest places in the country to recruit.

Your team is now the OCC cupcake Du jour, but all you need to play in BCS bowl games is a new coach?

Stupid take.

Many of the board's punching bags are AWOL: mfool, noj, trixie, brad, etc...

Lots of knowledgable guys are MIA too.

What happened?

Did you read the post right above yours?

Yeah, pretty much all that's missing from that equation is a good coach. You call it a stupid take, but it's been proven. CU can compete for and win MNCs with a great coach (McCartney) and can at least stay in the conversation with a decent coach (Neuweasel, Barnett). What would lead you to believe that anything else is responsible for CU's recent downfall?

Like the sig says, man...
