- "dumb" penalty, but hella fun to see some o' that
- defense was shaky in the opening qtr, but stomped shit all day after that
- 2 pt win at home against a shit team, but Oakland really did slap the lambs all around in the 2nd half after Gradkowski replaced Campbell - 404 yds to 210
- McFadden with another big day - 145 yds rushing
- D.H. Bey - 6 catches for 80 yds, nice
- Gradkowski will/should start next week - more energy and ability to make things happen behind a sub-par O-Line - he did a super job
- kick Diogenes in the cunt next week
The the title to this thread and thought you were talking about Campbell. :P

Cable is announcing this afternoon that Gradkowski will start week 3.
I'm not a Jason Campbell fan, but you gotta give the guy more than a few months and six quarters to pick up a system, especially if you're gonna trade for the guy.
Gradkowski is Jon Kitna with a better arm.

Which would be a marked improvement over Jason Campbell who is an exceptionally shitty QB.

Right. Point being that the Raiders had BG last year, so they knew what they had. So why...
Sorry, I was about to analyze a Raider front office move with logic and reason. Don't know WTF I was thinking.

Grads tore up both knees last season and then tore a pectoral muscle in off-season training.
Wasn't exactly looking like reliable goods heading into 2010.
Much to his credit, he's a gamer and he got himself ready.
Dude comes to play ball, period.

It was a good decision by Cable.
Campbell was playing like he was in a coma, the team was in a coma - Gradkowski came in and lit a fire.
The team responded to him, just like they did last year.
The guy has a lot of energy and a lot of "kick in the pants" to him.
Last week, what was Cable supposed to do - go with Campbell and watch his team go to 0-2, because Jason is still "learning" things?
Shit man, you gotta perform.
If Grads is more ready and able now, he plays.
Suck it up and be ready when Grads goes down, Jason Campbell - which probably won't be long, playing behind that line.

Yeah, all of that sounds very familiar. Oh yeah, that's how the Niners ended up with jump-passing Jeff Garcia as a starting QB. Garcia and Grad are both cut from the same cloth (gamers), but neither has any business starting in the NFL.

What he's supposed to do, is do what is best for his team. Did he do that? It ended up being a great decision in terms of NFL Week 2, because they won. But what about in terms of games 3-16. You have to be careful making a decision that may win you today's game, but end up hurting you in the long run. Also remember that Grad came in and energized the team against The Rams. I know Grad is a spark plug, but c'mon...Archie Manning could have strapped on some pads and brought the Raiders back from a 4pt deficit against the fucking Rams.
If they traded for this guy and they're ready to bench him after one game...WTF? This isn't a Kevin Kolb issue. This is a veteran that they traded for and brought in to lead the team.

What part of his game diplays veteran leadership qualities? Sliding two yards before the first down marker on a third down scramble or just taking a knee when he didn't like the snap. Terrible decision making and playing with a labia don't tend to show themselves until gametime.
If Gradkowski was healthy all offseason, that trade doesn't get made.

I don't agree with some of your points there, Mike.
Jeff Garcia had a 58-58 record as a starter in the NFL.
No business starting in the NFL?
Huh?
Grads is actually a Garcia look-a-like on the field.
Hey, I LOVE Gradkowski as a back-up QB.
I think he's everything you'd want for that role.
Keeps his head in the game, is always ready, and is a fireplug when he gets into the game.
I question whether he can be a solid starter over the long haul.
He doesn't have much of a downfield arm.
The key point here is you can't throw the whole season down the shitter waiting for Campbell to "get it."
He really looked a whole lot like JaWalrus did last year.
The offense was just ... DEAD, and he wasn't showing any ability to raise things.
Yes, it was only the Rams that Gradkowski got over on last week, but if it had been Campbell the whole way it sure looked like it was on it's way to a big fat L.
Gradkowski took a floundering Oakland team last season and got wins over Cincinnati (a 10-6 playoff team) and Pittsbugh (a 9-7 team).
If I'm Cable, I ride him until he either gets hurt or isn't gettin' the job done.

What I meant is that Garcia will never be more than that scrappy gym rat that can out-hustle the opposition to win you 9 or 10 games a year. But unless the other team turns the ball over 4 times, he doesn't have the talent level to win marquee games.
I liked Garcia as a person, but I knew every year that it was going to be 10-6 and a first round playoff loss.
