Ohio U mascot blows up Brutus Buckeye

In another example of a MAC school getting over on Ohio State, the Ohio U mascot beat the shit out of Brutus Buckeye on Saturday. The accompanying notes are that the Ohio mascot wasn't even an OU student and specifically tried out for the mascot role last year just so he could beat up Brutus.
Why Ohio even let a non-student play the role of mascot makes me think someone in Athens might get fired. The non-OU student has been banned from affiliating with the school's athletic department, not that he gives a shit.

One huge question for the Ohio U athletic department is how someone who was unaffiliated with the school was allowed to be the mascot. It was clear the dude knew there would be few to no consequences for his actions. As he said, he didn't care that he was banned from ever attending Ohio U athletic events again.
I know that at WMU, or perhaps every D-1 university, you're not allowed to be the mascot unless you are affiliated with the university as a student or grad assistant, etc.

at Colorado, the furry suited mascot (Buffalo Chip) goes through the AD. I've had two "Chips" in classes and had to fill out the midterm progress reports for them just like athletes. So, it HAS to be a student. They have tryouts...so, maybe they are open to non-students too....but, i really doubt it.
