1. The SEC.
Too many of their teams got a free pass into the top 25 to start the season. Georgia? Allbarn squeaked by Clemson then takes out another overrated SEC team in South Carolina. How the fuck was SC rated #12? Alabama almost gets taken out by yet another overrated SEC team today. Meatgrinder my ass.

2. The Big 12.
Texas is #7 and they get smoked by UCLA? At home? #8 Oklahoma barely got by Cincinnati. Pathetic.

Pretty good argument for not having any polls until the 5th week of the season....and, penalizing teams that schedule cupcakes.

Exactly. And I put the Badgers right in there with both the teams that schedule cupcakes and the teams that are overrated. Today's 70-3 victory over the always dangerous Austin Peay Governors notwithstanding.

And don't look too closely at the Corn's game. South Dakota State, that's right, South damn Dakota State!; had no less than 2 touchdowns called back on penalties in a 17-3 game.
You do the math. Ugh.

Clemson was a good team? No. And SC was definitely overrated. You do realize that the Big 10 was still playing non-conference games, right tubby?

Yes, and look at the schedule on November 6. While all of the Big 10 teams are playing conference games, Allbarn is playing Chattanooga. Idiot.

Spray is right...that was a pathetic slate of games for the Big Ten. Minny loses again. I guess JON was right about Brewster.

OU: outscored 41-10 in the 4th Q over the last 3 games.

Trivia Question:

Name the only major college team to play three top 15 opponents in September.

Rack NIU and Toledo! The MAC gets over once again. Would be nice if WMU would be on the winning side of those games once in a while.

They should wipe out all the rankings as of today and not fire 'em up 'til 3 weeks from now.
Agreed. I don't think there's anyone who is head and shoulders better than 10 or 15 of the other top teams. At least it will make for an interesting season with some close games and upsets.

What, did Iowa's AD stop answering the phone?

Well, KSU is still undefeated, Stanford is still undefeated, Houston & Texas WERE undefeated, so not a bad slate for September....

I disagree. The abundance of bigger, faster, stronger players is increasing. Even those fighting for 3-star scraps are fielding competitive teams. It's going to get tougher for one or two teams to dominate the landscape precisely because there's a bunch of "really good" teams.

Of course he's not answering. Why would he want to schedule the only team in Michigan that can beat the Hawkeyes?

hmm, between the two of us i've seen three times as many michigan wins over iowa as you've seen iowa wins over michigan, and i'm less than half your age.

How many ranked teams have already played 3 road games this year and will play 7 road games this season in total?

I agree with what you’re saying about the Big 10 schedule last weekend. The conference games start next weekend and it seems a lot of the teams schedule their premier cupcake game on that preceding weekend, before they start the 8-game Midwest meatgrinder.

The SEC starts a week earlier. That way their teams get a “bye” week in November when you’ll see the schedules featuring games with Georgia State, Charleston Southern, Louisiana-Monroe and Louisiana-Lafayette.

Anyway, Seer recognized the gist of the thread which was that they shouldn’t even have rankings until at least week 5. I think the SEC teams were overrated preseason, and they still are.

Yes, a good point, but then what would CFB fans have to argue about in the meantime?

Playoff system, how good is Boise State, etc.

Michigan owns a huge historical lead of something like 40 wins and 10 losses, with a few ties, but I think you're exaggerating on the "three times as many wins over Iowa" in your lifetime (if you're less than half my age).

Ummm, Michigan's got 30 Ws on you guys. You have a whole 3 game edge on MSU. You're 2-0 vs the mighty Chippewas, but that's negated since you can't beat Western. I'd say the state of MI is doing just fine vs the Chickenhawks.

Duh! Really? Geez, do I have to use smilies for you guys to catch on? Guess so.

i guess hyperbole will bite you in the ass every so often. i'll tone it down: i've seen two times as many michigan wins over iowa as you've seen iowa wins over michigan, at least in my lifetime.

23 games: michigan's won 16 of them, iowa 7.
