I received and installed that cisco wireless network card the other day. It worked fine and sniffed out the network quickly, but it also disabled several windows features, such as the interface that allows multiple users to log in, as well as fast user switching capability. Now it only allows the main admin account to log in. I've gotten a warning saying I have to delete one of the cicso .dll files to fix this problem, I will have to contact them to see what is up. When I loaded it, they gave me two options as to what interface I wanted, and I chose the cisco one over the windows one, as they said I would need a patch for the windows one, and it may not be as secure. That is probably the problem. Just thought you might want to know that happened. It did not happen with the linksys cards. They loaded up just fine, although I am not all that happy with one of them. It keeps dropping off the network when it gets hot.

Also - I have this weird problem with my desktop computer. I have session cookies allowed, I allow first party cookies, with a prompt on third party cookies, but I am having trouble staying logged into a linux based PHP website. It allows my initial login, but if I attempt to do any of the functions on that page such as editing a record, it boots me back out to the log in page as soon as I click the button to edit. Same deal for paypal. It won't let me register for an account. It allows me to fill out the form, but it won't accept it. Paypal sent me a link to its FAQs.

I have see a warning about active X controls not fully working on my 'puter when I visited some website - could that be the problem?

Its a win XP pro system.

I haven't seen it so you might just want to clear your cookies and temp files/history and see if that helps. What browser are you using?

Are you using a software firewall on that machine? The problem could be with ActiveX or some other program that your browser is using to handle some document. It might be some setting other then the cookies that are stopping you from loading some file in a different program like Java or ActiveX. I have seen this as a problem when you set certain settings on some software firewall. It doesn't automatically allow your browser to use another program to handle files it downloads. Could also be a setting in IE/Firefox that denies the right to use another program.


As far as your Cisco problems go, Linksys sucks because all it does is the very basic shit and it doesn't do it all that well. It relies on the general hardware drivers that come with Windows. Cisco's hardware can work with some of that stuff, but to get the most out of it, you need the cisco drivers.
You might go back into your Services List and make sure that the multi user login service is enabled. Also make sure that your network settings didn't get switched to a Domain network from a Workgroup. If your computer is part of a domain, it won't allow multiple logins.
In other words, if the driver switched some stuff around, see if you can switch it back. I've never heard of this but I suppose it could of happend.
Well that or you accidentally did something during your network config that screwed things up. Since I don't know, you'll have to investigate.

Yeah I'm using IE6, ubt I also have that on another puter on the network, they both have ZAP firewall. I guess I'll have to hunt it down. I haven't tried firefox yet, but I plan to.

It came with a CD that had a wizard, so I didn't alter anything outside of that, but the warning message I got when I re booted indicated a very specific .dll file related to cisco did indeed disable the fast user switching. I have not pursued it further yet. Since it has a warranty I was going to call the Cisco people in Pakistan or Manila. ;)

I just thought you might want to know what I ran into, since you deal with this stuff all the time. I'll let you know what comes of it as soon as I have the time to wait on hold for India.

I will check the domain/workgroup thing. If that is the problem, how does that get switched back? The card automatically found the network, so if it did set it as a domain, it did so on its own.

I installed firefox on the computer that is having access problems, and it works fine. I can get to the linux site with no problem, so obviously it is an IE 6 problem, but since all of the obvious settings are as they should be, I have no idea what else could be causing it.

Any thoughts?

BI,it sounds like an Active X problem.
you might try setting your default levels under Security in Internet Options.

Is your IE up to date? It does sound like an ActiveX problem and as DIT suggested it might have to do with your security settings and cookies. Have you cleaned out your temp files and cookies? You might try resetting the IE settings to the default and then try to see if things will work. If the problem is with corrupt IE files, you could try to upgrade to the latest IE or just download the latest upgrade and force it to install on your computer. Sometimes that will fix problems.

I think it must be corrupt. I've D/L'ed recent updates to IE, I reset the security and IE settings to default, and I still get the same problem. Not sure how to solve the Active X issue, though. It doesn't show up in any problem solver software I have.

However Firefox is working great. I can deal with it this way, as long as I have the option.

One I get out of the IE habit I'll be using firefox mostly, anyway.

Well, I'd have to say that your solution to use Firefox is much better then fixing IE, however, in case you ever want to fix windows/IE, you might just need to do a scan for corrupt windows files or just do a repair install.

I've run just about every trouble shooting program there is - am I missing one?

Did you run the System File checker? It should check all the default windows and I think IE files to make sure they aren't corrupt.
