Calling the KC Contingent
Texans vs Queefs
KC's run defense is good, but they haven't face a zone blocking scheme this season. Arian being completely shutdown two games in a row is unlikely, but something's gotta give in this game.
Matt Cassel is averaging in the neighborhood of 177 yards passing a game. Houston's pass defense is atrocious. Something's gott give.
Houston losing another game at home is very uncharacteristic of them. I think they respond after last week's horrific effort.

Second straight roadie for KC.
Houston coming off a loss.
KC feels a bit of pride because they "hung in there" with Indy.
But Houston is better than Indy, imo.
Adds up to bad times for KC.
Houston covers the 4 pt spread and goes to 4-2.
The Queefs drop to 3-2.

Re: Calling the KC Contingent
What's a zone blocking scheme and can it be game planned for?
I have no fucking idea what's going to happen in this game. Probably another episode of Haley out thinking himself trying to be a genius and shooting himself in the foot. In that case, the Texans roll 38-17
Or maybe he acts like he trusts his team (other than Cassel) and they hand the ball to Jones and Charles 50 times. In that scenario they also lose, just not by as much.
I'll be an optimist and say Hou 17-13. And I'll also be a pessimist in saying that Haley will give me at least another 3 reasons to call him a stupid SOB.

Respond HOW, Coogs? That score of yours could easily go either way.
Jamaal Charles is comin' home. Couple his buck-fifty on the ground with Cassel's steady "mix" of outs to McCluster and slants to Moeaki (and maybe a PI-or-two on balls chucked into double coverage and in the General Direction of a Kansas City wide-out) and the Chiefs likely have a enough to get it done.
Or not. Oughtta be a decent watch at any rate.
Oh, and just for the hell of it:

It's called a take, numbnuts.
Sort of the drill around here - as it's been for a decade.
Come out from under the couch and try to actually say something.
"Yeah, we might win ... if we don't lose."
Tool.
I see you working, though.
You know your team isn't much.
You hope against hope that the mirage can stay alive a little longer - but you fear that week-by-week, more of the fraud will be exposed.
So you choose to mutter and mumble, all the while failing to give a bottom line take on the matter at hand.
Just stay OUT if that's how tiny your sack is.
KC loses to Houston by more than 4.
Oakland, coming off a BIG division win and looking like it might be turning the corner to respectability faces a winless team ... and watches them capture their first win.
It's perfect.
49ers by 6.
Doinks can't run the ball v. the Jets = Doinks don't win.
Jets get a late FG to win it.
Chargers pound STL into the ground by at least 2 TDs.
KC: 3-2
SD: 3-3
DEN: 2-4
OAK: 2-4

Houston usually waits till the second half of the season to remember they will always be an 8-8 team. This year is no exception. If this game was in late November, I'd go with the Chiefs. But since this is the time of year the Texans trick their fans into thinking they are anything but average, I gotta with Houston right now.

Brittle Matt Schaub gets lit up in this game and doesn't finish it. Andre Johnson gets largely shut down by Brandon Flowers. Tony Moeaki GOES OFF for triple-digit yardage and a TD or two....the Jones/Charles freight trains runs up and down the Reliant Stadium track, and the Chiefs essentially beat up on one of the softest teams in the NFL:
Chiefs- 20
Texans- 10

Y'all are going about this all wrong by establishing a running game. Houston's run D is actually pretty good. If you want to score points, then I suggest the Chefs offense air it the fuck out.

If Houston gets it's nose out in front in this game it'll get ugly and be a legitimate ROUTE.

Re: Calling the KC Contingent
This game much like the game against Indy is going to depend on the Chiefs ability to take pressure off the running game via the passing game. Last week the Chiefs saw many 8 and 9 man fronts and they were unable to take advantage of it in the passing game. Therefor the running game also suffered. I think Cassel steps his game up a little this week. Bowe will be out to redeem himself. Moeaki makes some key plays and Charles busts a big run. The Chiefs do just enough to squeak out a victory. 23-20

Re: Calling the KC Contingent
Matt Cassel is a mediocre QB, there's just no way around it. The Chiefs are going to have to go in another direction if they ever want to contend for a Super Bowl. I still think that with this schedule, the Chiefs can win 10-11 games. This is the weakest schedule an NFL team has probably ever had. The Colts are the only really good team we will face all season.
This game could go either way. I think we've got 2 pretty even teams overall. If Cassel can avoid turning it over, I like KC's chances. D-Bowe has got to stop dropping balls too. That was pathetic last week. The defense is getting better and better.
I was not happy with them getting Cassel from New England, and I don't think Brody Croyle is any worse. I would have liked to get a QB in the draft or sign a quality veteran that's maybe not a game changing QB but someone that is steady.
Cassel's success in his season as a starter in New England was due to the system and the talent around him. It had nothing to do with him. The guy hadn't even played since High school and all of a sudden jumps into the NFL and throws for 3,500 yards. Seemed kinda odd to me.

I grew up a Chiefs fan. I have a Chiefs tattoo on my leg. I love the Chiefs.
I live in Houston and have followed the Texans since game one. I have season tickets and have been to every home game except 3. I consider myself a bigger Texans fan than Chiefs fan.
Texans will win for a few reasons:
The Texans looked like shit last week. There will be 70K+ there to remind them and they are generally pretty good at home. They will not want to drop to 3-3 with a bye week and the first game at Indy.
The Texans have a better offense. We can score a ton of points. We can run the ball and if we run, the passing game opens up. This is vital for the Texans. I hope the Chiefs sell out to stop one or the other. If they do, we score 30+.
Tailgating is better in Houston. I had always heard about Chiefs tailgating. I went to the Texans/Chiefs at Arrowhead in 2004 and thought that it sucked. Come to Houston and you will see the best tailgating in the NFL.
Chiefs suck on offense. The Texans will force Cassell to pass and it will not help.
Texans 31
Chiefs 16

I have tailgated in KC. Here is what it was like:
The night before we went down on the plaza. We hit some BBQ joint. Food was good but the sauce was bland. I asked for some spicy sauce....bitch came out with a tablespoon and warned us. Really? We ordered a troth and got busy. Not bad. It had some kick but my 7 year old could have taken it. I looked at my buddy from KC and he was bright red and tears were in his eyes. He claimed the sauce was too hot. Pussies.
Game started at noon and we got out there at 9AM. We were right next to the stadium. We drove into our spot and set up. Over the next hour, cars showed up. I have never seen so many Buicks in one place. These people got out, set up lawn chairs, a small hibachi, got out a sixer and kept to themselves. There was no interaction between the people. We talked to the people next to us and they looked at us like we were Jon=Bitch trying to sell them on why Iowa is a good football program. There was ZERO atmosphere.
These guys are generally pretty solid when it comes to ratings
In Houston, tailgating is an art-form. It starts with the atmosphere. People start lining up at 6:30 AM so that they can get a good spot. By 9AM you are SOL if you want a good parking spot. In our lot alone, there are 3 live bands that set up and get the party going. You will see more RV's and Texan buses that you could ever imagine.
We start with a spicy Bloody Mary and beer. The first thing off the grill are generally Jalapeno poppers. We get Jalapenos, stuff them with cream cheese, and wrap them with a chicken tender and bacon and grill them. Awesome. Our chef requires that everyone takes Jager shots as he cooks. Brutal. The first game this year we boiled crab legs and did Filets. I never saw any of that in KC. Sunday's game, our menu is Jalapeno Poppers, Deer Chili, cornbread, and Cablito with grilled pineapple.
I have also tailgated in Dallas (Average), Denver (Sucked), San Francisco (Boring), New Orleans (Good Tailgating), and Oakland (Scary). I still want to hit Green Bay. I have a buddy from Chicago who has been to a few of our tailgates and he says it is the best. He has been to Chicago, Pittsburgh and Green Bay and said we were much better.

If the Gates at 47th and Main, you did ok. Otherwise, there isn't a decent Q joint within 5 miles of the Plaza... and nobody here is counting Zarda or Oklahoma Joe's 'cause they're in Kansas and don't count.

The Texan secondary is very suspect, but give Gradkowski his due.

How can you criticize Chiefs tailgating except for the women? I will say, the good looking women at Chiefs games is few and far between. It's a real shame the Royals aren't better because there are a shit load more hot chicks at Royals game than Chiefs games.
But that said, how can you not enjoy a Chiefs tailgate? Truman Sports Complex has the perfect setup for tailgating. It's the best tailgating experience in the NFL from what I have seen. Chicago, Minnesota, Tampa Bay, Indy, Dallas (old stadium), and Pittsburgh. None of them compare. I will say that the whole Arrowhead gameday experience isn't what it was like back in the 90's but maybe it just seems that way to me because stuff like that was much cooler back when you're younger. It just seems like it's not as much of a college-type atmosphere anymore and more like an NFL experience- which really isn't that exciting. I think the tailgating is still fun though and haven't found a better NFL tailgating experience.
Went to a Rams game a couple years ago and that was incredibly lame. We didn't tailgate and from the looks of it, neither did anyone else. Worst overall gameday experience of any college or pro game I've ever been to. Maybe us Chiefs fans will liven it up on November 21st. Hopefully the Rams fans won't be confused why people are actually cheering. And I hope they've since fixed their sound system. That shit was worse than a high school sound system.

Re: Calling the KC Contingent
That is a tough question. When you live in a city, there is a ton of coverage of that team. I hated the Oilers. Never really liked any sports teams from Houston. I don't like the Rockets, either. I was in Houston for the birth of the Texans. I got to watch Bob McNair spill his heart and wallet for the NFL fans of Houston. He does things the right way. I got to watch the players come through. I have been to the practices and watched these guys labor doing something they love. There is a passion in Houston for football. I guess I caught the fever.Dr_Phibes wrote:How does that happen? I got season tickets for the first season. The Texans played the Chiefs in 2003 and I showed up in a Chiefs jersey with a Texans hat. In 2004 we roadied to KC and I was in a Texas hat and my Len Dawson throwback jersey. I think that things started to change in 2006. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Chiefs. I still have a bet with my mom that when the Chiefs win the SB, she owes me a case of Heineken. I root for the Chiefs every game, except when they play the Texans.
Re: Calling the KC Contingent
Easy. It was boring, lame and the people were not friendly at all. All you have to do is hit 1 game at Reliant and then you will understand what real tailgating is all about. The people are there to have a good time. People are constantly coming by, talking, sharing food and drinks....it must be a Texas thing, you wouldn't understand.TheJON wrote: How can you criticize Chiefs tailgating except for the women?
I do not go to sporting events to try and get my dick wet. I am more interested in watching the game and hanging out. When you get older and actually have a girlfriend, you will get it. That is asking a lot, but hey, truth hurts.TheJON wrote:

Re: Calling the KC Contingent
My TAKE is that even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
My TAKE is that you’re 1-3 picking against the Chiefs.
My TAKE is that you really suck at this.
What do you want, poplix?
The Chiefs have to pound the ball, control the clock, take care of the ball, and hopefully not have to rely on Cassel to win the game with his arm late in the fourth quarter. On defense, they have to control the line of scrimmage, establish the pass rush, shut down Houston’s running game, and not allow Schaub the Big Play over the top. A couple of take-aways-or three would be nice to. In addition, the Chiefs need to convert in the Red Zone, take advantage of all their scoring opportunities, cover kicks, punt for field position, and establish their return game.[/cliché]
Wash, rinse, repeat. Same shit, different week. I'll post the same for you next week when the Chiefs square off against the Jags, if you like. This is how the 2010 Chiefs play.
I posted it before; I’ll post it again. Matt Cassel is horrible. He’d have a better shot of scrambling down field 20 yards and handing the ball off to a wide receiver then he ever would of actually completing a pass to one of them. Then again, they’d probably drop the friggin’ hand-off.
The intangible this week is that J. Charles IS coming home. He grew up within an hour's drive of H-Town, and there may be some added incentive for an already spectacular player to do something EVEN MORE spectacular. That's why I think the Chiefs have a shot to turn Coogs's score around.
As to the rest of your rant, melt-tart, don’t expect some pussy Retirement Thread from any of the Defenders should the Chiefs come up short in Houston. We’re playin’ with House Money.
There wasn’t a soul in this town that had the Chiefs picked to be 3-1 at the end of the first quarter of the season. And most everybody’s pre-season picks had an “L” pegged to this game as well. But Romeo Crenel has built something special this year with this defense that is beginning to make people believe again. And his defense should keep the Chiefs in every game with a chance win it in the end all season long.
Say what you will, but the Chiefs take care of the ball, don’t commit bad penalties, and do all of the other things I listed above to stay in ball games. They may be thin on talent in (a lot of) areas, but they’ll hit you, and they ARE a well coached team. Enjoy your Bay of Pigs game Sunday, Loser.

Yes, Indy, “mix”. Not mix.
Mix implies aptitude.
“Mix”connotes irony... to anyone who actually watched the game.
You truly are dumb enough to eat gourds.

What Wags said, Harv. Only Tourists eat barbecue on the Plaza. FWIW, KC Masterpiece is long gone. Pity your hotel concierge didn't direct you to where you could find the Genuine Article. Rule of thumb: If Kansas Citians don't eat there, you shouldn't either.
Also sorry you had a tough go of it on your visit to Arrowhead. Sounds like you got caught up with the wrong bunch. Most folks I know look to corral a visitor, set him down, beer him up and feed him if they know that he’s from out-of-town and looking to experience Arrowhead for the first time.
I’ve fed Vikings and Bears, Packers and Redskins, Cowboys and Niners and yes, even Broncos and Raiders over the years from our spot in the trees on Arrowhead’s south side. Yeah, they might take a good ribbing – while eating some good ribs! I’ve always enjoyed being able to talk to folks from other parts of the country, listening to their football roadie experiences and hearing their takes on their home team. Not unlike why we come to this Board, I suppose….
BTW, deer chili is fare you’re likely to find here too when the winds come howling in December; backstraps that manage to survive deer camp are popular as well. ‘Til then, you’d find a pretty steady menu of ribs, brisket, brats, wings, and poppers. I’ve seen huge shrimp boils and whole smoked hawgs served up out here too. And deep-fried or smoked turkey is always part of the tradition for late November ball games. Drop a PM if you ever run through here again – I guarantee you’ll see what Arrowhead is all about!
Oh, and, JON:
Just shut the fuck up.
The same chicks that go to the “K” attend games at Arrowhead too.

Apparently the fatter your fanbase, the better your tailgating.According to Forbes Traveler, Houston now holds first place as the best tailgating site in the NFL, beating out such pretenders as Kansas City, Buffalo — the site of the Texans' game Sunday — Green Bay and Philadelphia.

Actually the bet was with my Father. He passed away this year and my mom told me she would keep the bet alive. Yeah, that's really gay.War Wagon wrote:[blink] What? [blink-blink-blink]Harvdog wrote:I still have a bet with my mom...

Well why didn't you say so in the first place? My condolences on the loss of your dad.Harvdog wrote: Actually the bet was with my Father. He passed away this year and my mom told me she would keep the bet alive.
As for your mom, I was going to write something like - "what does she get if KC doesn't win the SB, a footrub"?
But that seems inappropriate now, so pretend I didn't write that.

Basically what the others have done in this thread - and for the past 10 years.
You've fallen into the "no score keeping soccer game" mode, I see.
Noted. :meow:
Haley is doing a good coaching job?
Yes and no.
I said when KC was 3-0 that a team doesn't win 3 straight in the NFL without doing a lot of things right.
That's a credit to coaching - especially when a team is lacking in talent in some important areas.
On the other hand, we saw the two knucklehead in-game decisions by Haley last week.
And we've seen them in the past.
"Br'r Scott" might appreciate you not bring up that bogus retirement thread that he created, Tru.
He shit the bed and you'd be wise to let that one die.

You wanna pull strings, quitter? Buy a puppet. I don't come here to entertain you.Truman wrote:The intangible this week is that J. Charles IS coming home. He grew up within an hour's drive of H-Town, and there may be some added incentive for an already spectacular player to do something EVEN MORE spectacular. One helluva game, Coogs'. Props to the Texans for makin' the come-back and gettin' the job done.Truman wrote:Oughtta be a decent watch at any rate.
Not big on moral victories, but I think the Chiefs have proven the past two weeks that they can play with anybody. You all clearly needed this one more than we did... With 'Dago losing again, the West is still wide open, and Jax is gonna have their hands full with a grumpy Chiefs team at Arrowhead next week-end.
Fail. Again. Just shut the fuck up, Quitter.poptart wrote:KC loses to Houston by more than 4.
