We was comin' back, from Olympic National Park in Washington, just finished a hike. A twenty mile hike. The three of us sat down for a picnic. We finished passing out the food in twelve minutes. Didn't see the first goat for about a half an hour. Mountain goat. Four-footer. You know how you know that when you're in the woods? You tell by lookin' from the horn to the tail. First sandwich, the goats come cruisin'. So we formed ourselves into a tight group. You know it's... kinda like ol' squares in battle like a, you see on a calendar, like the battle of Waterloo. And the idea was, the goat comes to the nearest man and that man, he'd start poundin' and hollerin' and screamin' and sometimes the goat would go away. Sometimes he wouldn't go away. Sometimes that goat, he looks right into you. Right into your eyes. You know the thing about a mountain goat, he's got...lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eye. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be livin'. Until he gores ya and those black eyes roll over white. And then, ah then you hear that terrible high pitch screamin' and the trail turns red and spite of all the poundin' and the hollerin' they all come in and gore you to pieces.

Y'know by the end of that first sandwich, we had already lost one man! I don't know how many goats, maybe a thousand! Five minutes later I bumped into a friend of mine, Robert Boardman from Olympia. Picnicker and hiker. I thought he was asleep, reached over to wake him up. He toppled head over feet into the dirt, just like a kinda top. Up ended. Well... he'd been gored in half below the waist. Noon the first day.

So, one man, a bulldog feminist and I went into the woods, his wife and me came out, the goats took him, October 18th, 2010. Anyway, other than that it was a good hike
