AFA did not "almost" beat OU. they never had the ball with a chance to take the lead or win.
they did run the ball up and down Owen Field, but did not 'almost win'.

Is there a ranking higher than #1 we can assign to SEC teams?

what happens to the teams that play USC who is not eligible to be ranked? does that count as a game vs a 1aa team? Yeah the Trojans defense is 1aaesque but still, SC would beat half the teams in half the BCS conferences with the 45 healthy players in the program they currently have.
The problem is that after oregon beats USC, the ducks arent going to benefit because USC cant be ranked even though the Trojans would wipe the floor with mississippi state, south carolina, missouri...

"SC" is now referred to as South Carolina. Your shitty, cheating team doesn't count. You could really sort of call them something like a "Junior College" at this point. Sure - they're there, but they don't make a fuck.
And they would buttfuck allbarn in the mouth on any field in the country this weekend and you still cant get over that fact

Same with OU.
i could care less what they're rank is right now as long as they're in the top 2 after the CCG it's all good

I believe that USC still counts as a regular opponent as far as the BCS points go, then they vacate USC's spot for the final rankings...
I think that's what I heard.

USC is not considered for the coaches or harris polls and some of the computer rankings dont bother with them either. How is a matrix system going to grade a game vs a non entity like USC? It must look like a bye game to a computer

Toejam,
I'd love to see a link that shows that the computers "don't bother" with SC. I find it hard to believe that Sagarin et al. would change their core formulas just to account for SC being on probation. As far as the human polls go, just because they're prohibited from voting for SC doesn't mean that they're incapable of evaluating the relative strength of a win over the Trojans. I don't really see SC's probation having a negative effect on anyone but themselves.

this morning there was some discussion on if games vs USC were going to help or hurt Pac 10 teams in the SOS rankings since the Trojans are not eligible to be ranked

If OU and Oregon hold on (odds are against it) and play for the Trinket, I'd say it's only fitting that the replay booth should be loaded up with PAC10 officials.

It's okay. Allbarn probably won't make the NCG. OU will do what they usually do there, and Allbarn will be ahead of them in the final poll, though. :D
Oklahoma will do what it usually does? So I can count on number 8 rather than being disappointed? Thanks Bro...

OU's opponent in their CCG will also have numerous losses AND will probably be a rematch game.
But if OU and Oregon are the only undefeated BCS conference teams, then that should be the MNC game. If Auburn goes undefeated, Cam Newton's Heisman will be the consolation prize for getting fukked...again. If LSU goes undefeated, there is no God.
Boise State has gotten more mileage from "signature" wins than any school in history, only because they're from a desolate area that nobody wants to be from.

Don't know about that. One of the popular criticisms of the BCS is that it shuns the "mid major" from getting to the MNC game. Anti-trust suits have even been toyed with. If Boise and/or TCU get there, the BCS honks will use that as leverage, claiming the system works for everybody.

I'm a glass half-full kinda guy. I'm hoping they see it as "let's never let this happen again" and institute the playoff.

There will never be a playoff under any circumstances in our lifetimes. I almost wish people would even stop bringing it up because it won't happen.
TCU will not play Boise State for a title because if we get to late in the season and the BCS standings indicate that's a strong possibility, the voters will make sure that it doesn't happen. Heck, they're gonna do everything they possibly can to keep Boise State out but they may not be able to. There are too many unbeatens or 1 loss teams that will jump TCU if they get a "big" win late in the season.
I would laugh my ass off if we did get a Boise/TCU title game. The month between the announcement of that game and gameday would make for an awesome national media meltdown and I certainly wouldn't wanna miss that!
I probably wouldn't watch much of the game, however.

ESPN
This could be the perfect storm. I would also like the scenario where Oklahoma and Oregon win out as well as say Auburn, and then OU and UO play for the BCS and one team fist-fucks the other while Auburn blows out a quality team in their BCS bowl. 2004 all over again. Since ESPN has hitched their wagon to the SEC, they will harp on it and harp on it and harp on it. They bring it up in passing every now and then, but their coverage of the hits in the NFL this past weekend has given enough negative press to the NFL that they caved and knee-jerked.
I'm just looking for ANY scenario that keeps a deserving SEC team out of the BCS championship game. Not because I hate the SEC...because I think ESPN (aka The Devil) would actually help to promote the idea of a playoff. They call themselves the worldwide leader in sports. I don't know what the fuck that means, but they have more pull in the sportsworld than any other independent organization. The phrase "bad press is good press" doesn't really fly in this PC world that has been forced upon us. The NCAA will eventually cave. See the expansion of the NCAA Basketball tourney as an example. ESPN went on and on and on for YEARS about bubble teams that deserved a shot and look what's happened.
We just need that perfect storm....

once again I'll remind you that this is the one of the most idiotic "analyses" that "power conference" honks like yourself can make....if Boise State was playing in any of thoseconferences, they'd be recruiting from a completely different talent pool- please cease and desist with this lame argument
as far as Boise State making it to the MNC, you're right-there is no way they'll make it....

when the current Boise State starters were recruited, there wasn't a single recruit given anything higher than a 3 star rating...Kellen Moore was a 3 star rated player that wasn't pursued by any PAC 10 teams, but I'd be willing to bet that there are a few members of the PAC 10 that would love to have the guy....if they were in the SEC, Big 12, etc. they'd be competing for the 4 and 5 star recruits along with Alabama, Oklahoma, LSU, Auburn, etc.....
give them those caliber of recruits, and I have no doubt in my mind that with Petersen's coaching, they'd be very competitive in any of the BCS conferences

Felix makes an excellent point. Weak schedule or no, if what Boise is doing is so easy, why haven't any other non-AQs followed suit? I guess you could argue that Utah and TCU have had similar success, but not with the consistency of Boise. And what do those three schools have in common? Excellent coaching.
All three have proven time and again that, when given the opportunity, they can play with and beat the big boys. I look at it as similar to what Gonzaga has done in CBB. It's easy to dismiss one great season as a fluke, but when you string together 6-7 great seasons in a row, there's got to be something more going on than just a weak conference schedule. I would have no problem seeing an undefeated BSU in the MNC game ahead of any 1-loss BCS school, not because of the controversy it would generate, but because at this point, they've fucking earned it. If it also happened to pave the way to a playoff, that's just icing on the cake…

I caught hell last year in a thread that ran about 25 pages for suggesting that. Watch out!
Wish we could play just one or two games a year against a quality opponent and be at the top of the polls.
I said you were wrong then and he is wrong now. Playing Boise State in Glendale scares me more than playing Auburn or Oregon right now. At least they have some semblance of a defense unlike the other two.

Because Oregon and Auburn score and give the ball back to the opponent 10 times a game, it means they have no "semblance of defense"?
I'll let you in on a football secret -- when an opponent gets 10+ possessions in a game, they're going to get some yards and points.
