If? It's a done deal, man. Lee has said time and again he loves to pitch on the big stage. If the Yankees lose to the Rangers, they will see it as #1 priority to get him so he can't beat them again. Nolan's response to the reporter who asked him how much he thinks it will take to sign Lee was classic: "Ask the Yankees."

I've always loved Nolan Ryan.

Yankees (left); Rangers (right)
The Rangers have the Yanks against the ropes and getting ready to deliver the knockout blow.
What a pimp home run by Molina right after TBS ran that package on his past home runs against the Yankees in past playoffs. Talk about right on queue...

The inability to score with the bases loaded have fucking killed the Yanks. Nice DP by A-roid then a great play on the ball by Berkman. This one's over. They actually got a good game by Burnett and then Molina kills them...now they're giving up home runs like a porn star give up her gash....fuck the yankees shitty ass middle relief.
I'm now officially rooting for the Rangers. Finish this fucker off in game 5 so I don't have to think there's any God Damned hope of the Yanks coming back........

That wasn't the reason they lost last night. You can pin that loss on Girardi. There was no reason to intentionally walk a batter with 2 outs and no runner on thrid base. Burnett had pitched quite well up to that point.

Me too. I just wish he was involved with my Astros instead of the Rangers. I've never really dug into it, but have always wondered why Nolan chose the Rangers over the Astros as to which team he wanted to associate himself with after his career ended.
New York Mets (1966, 1968–1971)
California Angels (1972–1979)
Houston Astros (1980–1988)
Texas Rangers (1989–1993)
5 years with the Mets. 8 years with the Angels. 9 years with the Astros. 5 years with the Rangers. All that with his most productive years as an Astro. I don't remember it that much, but it must have been a bad breakup with the Stros when he left for the Rangers.

^^^ Who wants to work for the joke known as Drayton McClane? Now Ryan is now president and part-owner of the Rangers. Sounds pretty clear cut to me.

Up until a few years ago, the Astros were one of the top 5 teams in winning percentage since McLane bought the team. Ryan did have a contract dispute with McLane the year he bought the team which is why I guess he up and left and never looked back. McLane does fit the Jerrah Jones mold though in that he is too involved with personnel decisions.

Isn't Cliff Lee 32 or 33 by now? I wouldn't sign him if I were the Rangers. You're looking at 4-5 years for $80 million. You probably won't get more than 1 great year out of him given his age and then maybe you get 1-2 pretty good years. Let the Yankees spend all that money on him.
If he was 29 years old, I would do it. But the Yankees are going to bring the asking price up on him so high that he will no longer have proper value.
If Texas is smart, they will pass on C-Lee and go trade away their farm system to get Zack Greinke. I don't want the Royals to trade him, but it sounds like they're willing to listen. From a Rangers perspective, this would be the better way to go. Greinke is going to get $13.5 million over the next 2 years and he's about to turn 27. Trade for him, then extend his contract for 2-3 more years which would end about the time his prime years are ending. Then go out and sign another quality younger pitcher for the difference in salary between Lee and Greinke you have left. That's a Cy Young winning pitcher that is only 27 + another quality starter for the same price you would pay to land a 32 or 33 year old Cliff Lee. Seems like money much better spent.
