Listened to Yeasayer's "Ambling Up".

WTF? Sucks badly. Real badly.

Of course, I am old as fuck.

God, I miss the days when talented musicians roamed the earth. Where are the Pages, the Capaldis, the Palmers, the Barres, the Andy Powells and Martin Turners, the Pappalardis?
I'd say your old man whining is really getting on my nerves, but what can I say? We're used to it. I should just give you a list of albums for you to pick through so you can vomit in your mouth a little bit with each and every song.

Listen to a few songs off Expo 86. I know you're gonna hate them, but at least listen to 'em.

I saw a band called Royal Bliss open for Candlebox. They were really good. I downloaded the CD and cannot stop listening to it. If is called Life In-Between. I am digging it.

Megadeth's Endgame is like old school metal from the 80's. I liked it a lot.

The new Iron Maiden, The Final Frontier, is really good too.

Sam,
Give the Fen album I mentioned a spin. It might be more to your liking. They're like a less spastic version of Mars Volta. Less coke, more weed, perhaps?

Talent is conveyed in different ways. Seven minute solos with masturbatory scaling isn't necessarily "better" music, it's merely different. One might very well have the talent to replicate such music but would rather cut out all the tedious junk.

Agree with you on this album- good stuff.

Mumford and Sons - Sigh No More

And despite it being a bit early (since it was just released), I really like-

Kings of Leon - Come Around Sundown

I would add The National - High Violet and The Black Keys - Brothers to any one of the three above.

The new Belle and Sebastian is really good, too. Second half carries the album. Sunday's Pretty Icons is the best track on the album.

Only listened to the new Black Keys a couple times. It seemed pretty subdued compared to their earlier stuff. I need to check out the National. Keep hearing good things about them but haven't gotten around to checking them out yet. Some of the indie rock stuff tends to fly under my radar in favor of "teh metal."
