Anyone get a chance to watch tonight?

Not good news for the Duke haters...two of the best players in the game were future Devils. I can't find the stats online but Greg Paulus had to have had the most assists in the game. Josh McRoberts, this year's recipient of the Morgan Wooten Award, was one of the leading scorers in the first half. Eric Boetang didn't play all that much. The parts of the game I watched, I never saw him on the floor.

Other standouts included Mario Chalmers out of Alaska going to Kansas. I didn't see a lot of his point guard skills but the guy can definitely shoot from the outside. He put on Reggie Miller-like performance for a brief stretch in the second half to get the West back into the game.

On the East squad, future OSU Cowboy Gerald Green was quite impressive. He seemed to be on the end of a lot of Paulus' assists. I'm not sure if he was the leading scorer in the game but he probably finished right near the top of stats sheet.

The first half was a bit of a laugher but the West made a run in the second half and made the finish atleast interesting. I was most interested in seeing the individual talents and I'm certainly excited about what's going to be coming to Durham next fall.

About Green, Sean Sutton came out last week and said as much...that they thought he would be wonderful, but the comment was couched in the way that they didn't really know if he would make it to college instead going directly NBA.

There's been some scuttlebutt about McRoberts declaring for the draft, but he said this week that he'll be at Duke. Besides McRoberts, Paulus, and Boateng, Duke has a Lithuanian sharpshooter named Marty Pocious and a wing from LA named Jamal Boykin...who was just named the POY in California.

Now if Shelden stays, and Randolph gets his shit together this summer, and Nelson stays healthy all next year........

"...if Randolph gets his shit together...." This guy is frustrating. Before fouling out, he actually had a decent game vs. UConn in the semi-final last year. I feel sorry for this guy because he's just never gotten into any kind of a groove. This year he was practically worthless. Williams on the other hand has become just plain nasty, giving the middle finger to those geniuses who claim players don't improve at Duke. He could go pro if he wanted, but he'd be better off waiting a year. If McRoberts et al can step right in and give him a little help down low, look out.

Duke will be loaded with or without Randolph stepping it up. They now go atleast 10 deep...Williams, Redick, Dockery, Melchionni, Nelson, Randolph, McClure, Poulus, McRoberts, Boetang. Throw in the other two non-McDonald's All-Americans and that's an even dozen...I can't remember the last time they were that deep.

I saw on Duke's site that Boateng and Pocius on the World Select Team at the 2005 Nike Hoop Summit...they're the only two that have signed letters of intent to play college in the states.

...gotta' wonder if any anti-DukeNation was at the game getting a head start comparing Paulus to Hitler or threatening McRoberts' mother....

I feel much better about the future of Kansas after watching Chalmers and Wright last night. They both look they are ready to make an immediate contribution, which KU desperately needs. Chalmers really, really looked good. Micah Downs looked OK while he was in. Pretty much all Freshman and Sophs next year.

Duke will be as deep as the 97-98 and 98-99 teams. Lets pray that they can actually win a title this time.

Shoalzie...you seem to be loyal to all the Michigan-based sports teams...so why a Duke fan? Did you spend some time in North Carolina? Don't worry, Michigan will bounce back.

It would seem more natural that I followed Michigan hoops. I do to a certain extend but when first started watching college hoops in the early 90s, I was fascinated with Coach K and Duke...even in the days of the Fab 5. Grant Hill was my favorite player and it was great when the Pistons drafted him out of college. I've stayed with Duke all this time. I pull for the Red Wings, the Tigers, the Lions and the Pistons and Michigan football and hockey and I've always disliked MSU. Call it bandwagon if you want but it's been a dozen years or so with me following the Blue Devils. I don't know how much I'll follow them after Coach K leaves...he's the main reason I still root for them.

Josh is commited to Duke for at least two years. That's family info as of yesterday, FWIW, but if it changes I'll speak up.

For a high school player of the year just to play a one year in college is victory for college hoops.
