What have we learned so far?

We're slightly beyond the midway point in the season, so figured this is a great time to go over what we've learned about the teams thus far....
-The Big-10 hasn't been this good in at least a decade (if not longer)
-The Big-12 is terrible
-The ACC is even worse
-The Big East is even worse than the ACC
-Oregon can score a ton of points against bad teams and Stanford
-Notre Dame still sucks (really breaks my heart)
-Tim Brewster was a bad football coach
-Michigan has improved, but not enough to keep DickRod off the hotseat
-Oklahoma was WAY overrated preseason (and it was ridiculous to see such a young team coming off an 8-5 season be ranked that high)
-Georgia Tech is probably the biggest disappointment in the country so far
-Kansas has a really really really really BAD football team
-Florida doesn't miss Tim Tebow. They miss having a quality QB and explosive playmaking receiver (there are other quality QB's besides Tebow despite what we've been told the last 4 years)
-Texas has absolutely no talent on offense and probably misses Jordan Shipley more than they do Colt McCoy
-Florida could really use Cam Newton right about now, and Gene Chizik might have been a good hire after all. Unbeaten so far and they did improve their record by 5 games last year from Tuberville's final season
-Alabama is still really good and did deserve to be ranked #1 until somebody beat them, but they're not quite as good as last year
-Steve Spurrier and Kirk Ferentz are both great coaches, but they both really fucked up big time with game management in 1 of their losses.
-We still have no idea how good Missouri really is. They have 6 wins over nothing teams and 1 win over an average team. We will know more about Missouri after the Nebraska game
-The NCAA has finally started to actually give a shit about cheating in college football. Where has this been for the last 20 years? Don't fuck with the NCAA anymore.
-I criticized Bob Bowlsby for hiring Jim Harbaugh at the time, but I can admit I was dead wrong. Captain Comeback can coach some football and I fear Michigan will fire DickRod so that they can bring him home. He would be the perfect hire and would get Michigan back to the top.
-Joe Paterno needs to do the right thing and retire after this season, and Penn State needs to stop letting him run the show. He is not a good coach anymore and neither are his assistants. I know he's had some good seasons over the last 7-8 years, but it's time. Penn State is now just a middle of the pack program and there's really no excuse for that considering all the talent in the area. And listening to his postgame press conferences, he sounds like he's a ticking time bomb. If he doesn't retire after this season, I think Penn State needs to fire him like Florida State did with Bowden. You can't keep letting a washed up coach run your program into the ground because he's a legend.

er, not sure if this is a compliment or an indictment. current standings and their ooc showings:
michigan state - ot win at home against notre dame and three cupcakes
wisconsin - barely beat a shitty arizona state team
ohio state - meh win against miami (fl)
iowa - lost to arizona, all the usual noj excuses notwithstanding. i suppose they beat iowa state in iowa state's super excited boner super bowl reach around game, so that's good.
purdue - lost to notre dame and toledo
illinois - lost to mizzou and barely beat no. illinois
michigan - michigan is 7th in the conference. tells you that story.
northwestern - 8th place is pretty much 7th. or 9th.
penn state - the most they've scored against a team with a pulse is 3. unless you count illinois, in which case they scored 13.
indiana - hahahahahahaha
minnesota - hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
as far as conference play goes, the conference standard bearer had an sos of 100+ before it played an actual game, and then they got their asses handed to them. the only legitimate teams are msu, osu, wisco, and iowa. the next best is probably michigan, and that's only because of their offense (when they're not turning the ball over).

Fixed
-The Big-12 is terrible
By Big XII standards? Could be. By Big Ten? Well, there are four Big XII teams currently ranked ahead of Iowa, and five schools total in the BCS. How many does the Big Ten have?
-Oklahoma was WAY overrated preseason (and it was ridiculous to see such a young team coming off an 8-5 season be ranked that high)
Because they would only beat Iowa by three touchdowns this year instead of six? I think they’re ranking is a compliment to the extraordinary young talent that they DO have.
-Steve Spurrier and Kirk Ferentz are both great coaches, but they both really fucked up big time with game management in 1 of their losses.
And yet here ol’ dumb Gary Pinkle stands 7-0. Interesting that you’d pair Ferentz’s name with Superior’s... How many MNC’s has Kirk won again?
-We still have no idea how good Missouri really is. They have 6 wins over nothing teams and 1 win over an average team. We will know more about Missouri after the Nebraska game
Good point. And we still have no idea how criminally stupid Jon really is. What we do know is that Mizzou has won seven games, and that Iowa has five wins over a buncha rummies. 7>5
BTW, that “average” one loss OU team is currently the BCS #9, and ranked exactly nine spots ahead of Iowa. If the Sooners are merely “average”, what does that make your Hawkeyes? Shouldn’t you be concerning yourself this week with becoming bowl eligible? Oh look, Sparty! Maybe not. Maybe you’ll get that maddeningly elusive sixth win next week....
So what have we learned? Jon is still fucking retarded. That’s what we’ve learned.

At this point I would say Michigan is a better team than Illinois, but the Illini are improving.
I have been impressed with the Top 4 teams in the Big-10 and there's a couple other quality teams. There's no doubt this is the best the league has been for probably a decade. Then again, the league hasn't been that great for quite a while. There were even years such as 2006 and 2007 where the league was downright pitiful even.
I fully expect another bowl season like last year from this conference.

unclear to me how MU beating Nebraska is more meaningful than beating OU given that OU is "an average team". an average team that beat Texas who, in turn, beat NU on their home field. yet, according to Jon, NU is the bigger win of the sequence?

Having seen both play (against MSU and in general), I'd say Illinois is the better all around team. Their defense is quite good. They gave OSU all they could handle, and completely shut down MSU's running game (up 6-3 at the half). Plus Leshore might be the best back in the conference.

The 'ol "team c beat team b and team b beat team a so team a is better than team c".
Clearly the Texas win over Nebraska was just a fluke given those teams performances in other games. The better team does not always win. There's this thing called an "upset" that happens on occasion. Sometimes a team plays a bad game. Texas is a terrible team and they are 4-3 on the season with their only 1 good win being a giant fluke (and everyone knows this). They got dominated by Iowa State and UCLA.
Nebraska only lost that game (in which they played their worst game of the Bo Pelini era) but has dominated basically everyone else they have played and this includes a quality road win over a decent Okie State team.
Oklahoma has 1 nice win and a blowout win over a terrible Iowa State team. They have not been dominant in any other game- in fact, they have played terrible. If Cincinnati had ANY ability to not fuck up, they probably would have lost that game. How many times were they driving and turned the ball over unforced? 3 times??
Oklahoma is an average team, and they are a year away. You've got a combined total of 6 senior starters. This is why one week they will blow out a decent Florida State team and then embarrass themselves against a bad Cincinnati team. Does Oklahoma have the potential to beat Nebraska? Of course they. But their youth was on display against Missouri on Saturday just like it has been in many games this year. Way too many mistakes on both sides of the ball. Every game (outside of the ISU game) I have watched from OU, this has been a problem. Your DB's are WAY too easy to get fooled on a play fake. This is what you expect from a young, talented team.
Nebraska is more experienced on both sides of the ball. This is where they have the edge. In terms of raw talent, OU probably has more. But experience is what separates the teams. OU can beat anyone, but they can also lose to anyone. That is why they are just an average team. Next year, I think a Top 5-10 ranking will be justified. This year it was silly. 8-5 last year and you're starting 6-7 seniors and this is justification for a Top 10 ranking? Come on, that's ridiculous.

You've fallen prey to a

Besides, it's a corn thing. Since the 'Skerge are now considered vetted and welcome members of The Greatest Football Conference in America (er,

Kee-rist, anytime I think you can't top some of the prior dumbfuckery you have spewed, you go and up the ante.
Just off the top of my head:
Pelini's first Big 12 game in 2008
at home:
Mizzou 52
Nubs 17
Last year, lost
at home 10-6 to a pathetic Iowa State while turning the ball over 8 times.
This year, an ugly 17-3 win
at home against D-II South Dakota State.
As for Okie State, they have been getting lit the fuck up all year by any team with a pulse, which includes Troy, ATM,
and Nebraska.
I could go on and on but suffice to say that you are the most clueless CFB fan I've ever stumbled across.

Next time you call Iowa a bunch of pussies, maybe you should look at your own coach, dipshit.
Pussy Pinkel's take on why he cancelled the contract to play Iowa:
"It hasn't been a big thing for me ," Missouri's football coach said Tuesday at Big 12 football media day when asked if he'd slighted Iowa. "I was hired to build a national program at Missouri. Scheduling is significant."
You did this to Michigan State too???? Wow, what a program full of sackless pussies. So you are afraid to play anyone and you still can't get to a BCS bowl? Bwaahahahahahahahaha! Props on playing Illinois, the crappiest program in the Big-10. You'd expect a team from the meatgrinding Big-12 would be man enough to face the top teams in the Big-10. I guess not.....

nope. you are saying that beating NU means something insofar as it will legitimate Mizzou more than beating OU (which apparently doesn't legitimate MU according to you). not counting OSU, name the last two times NU has beaten a ranked opponent? go ahead, look it up. oh, that has nothing to do with this year....you will say. OK, fine. Sticking to this year, NU is a team that lost at home to a UT team that sucks out loud (from your posts). yet, here you are.....doing the foreskin 500 for NU...which is clearly sucking hind teat in the OU/UT/NU "common opponent" comparison and has the most yet to prove. For you, they have arrived. It's convenient to accept OSU as a "decent" team when it suits your argument to need a "quality" win for NU. normally you think they suck and certainly never as tough as Purdue or Northwestern.
again, you are the same "objective" genius who posted that even though Iowa lost at U of A they are still the better team....and resort to magical, non-analytical terms like "fluke" and "worst game ever in the Bo Pelini era" to deflect the errors of points you make. good, solid work from you. i can't speak for everyone, but that's not very convincing.
i think Truman is right....NU being in the Big Ten has made you a bugeater BSH. losing to Texas apparently doesn't count, but OU struggling late with Cincy can apparently prove every point you ever make. Do I think OU is a top 5 team, no. But your constant need to talk about OU is interesting. you are more than willing to include past seasons when it comes to honking up Iowa v. Mizzou as "programs" and history; but, you are quick to play the "what does the past have to do with this year" card when you need to. no contradictions there.

Aren't you a professor at CU, KC? I'm starting to wonder about your reading comprehension skills. I thought CU was a better school than that.
Anyways, I never said ANY of what you just said. I said all that matters to me is RECENT history. I have no idea how much clearer I could make myself with that. You have got to quit making shit up about what I say. It's getting annoying, and you've been doing it a lot recently.
That said, the past has NOTHING to do with how good a team is THIS YEAR. Program stature, I go based on RECENT HISTORY. Much like OU is a better program than Iowa or Missouri, but Iowa and Missouri both have much better football teams this year than OU.
NU being in the Big Ten has made you a bugeater BSH
2 things you make up about me in 1 post? Usually you stick to just 1. I hate Nebraska. Hate them with a passion. I feel dirty having to stick up for them. Did you read my comparisons of OU and NU? What exactly did I say that was false in that? See, the thing is, you can't dispute what I said so you have to go to the "they're going to the Big-10 so I'm now a Nebraska honk". Umm.....NU is playing in the Big-12 this year, correct? It's amazing how the past 3-4 years I have done nothing but rip on how mediocre the Big-10 is and you still claim me to be a Big-10 homer. How the fuck can I be a Big-10 BSH if I'm continually ripping on the conference?
losing to Texas apparently doesn't count, but OU struggling late with Cincy can apparently prove every point you ever make.
Let me see if I can explain this to someone with an inability to understand clear explanations. Ok, here goes.....
Nebraska has a more EXPERIENCED football team than OU. OU did not just play shitty against Cincinnati. They played shitty against Air Force (a bad team), Utah State (a bad team), Texas (a bad team), and Missouri (a good team). They played good against Florida State (a decent team) and Iowa State (a bad team). This is EXACTLY what you would expect from a young team. Their YOUTH is the reason they are just kinda average this year, despite what the rankings say.
Take off your damn OU goggles for a second here.......just one fucking time. You have got to be out of your damn mind if, by watching this team play, you think they are a Top 10 caliber football team.
You OU fans have NO right calling out other fans for being homers. You guys take it to a whole new level. None of you are smart enough to realize the ONLY reason you are ranked where you are is 100% because you are OU and not because your team is actually that good. Nebraska is more experienced and more consistent because of that.
not counting OSU, name the last two times NU has beaten a ranked opponent? go ahead, look it up. oh, that has nothing to do with this year
No, it doesn't have anything to do with anything. OU is a better PROGRAM than Nebraska right now and this is not debatable. Nebraska is a better TEAM this year. And I am basing THIS YEAR's football team (like I always do, unlike some of you that ride the coattails of previous seasons to somehow prove that makes your team better THIS SEASON) on what they have done THIS YEAR. Both OU and Nebraska have beaten 1team that is currently ranked. The difference? Nebraska is more consistent, which should be expected considering they are more experienced.
This isn't rocket science, boys.
