Saw him last year at a golf tournament in T.O.....Coherent, affable, shooting the breeze about baseball with lots of us duffers....Must've degenerated fast.....

Dementia can fuck you up fast. You were also talking baseball with him, so it was probably easy for him to carry on a conversation without showing too many signs. The next day, he was probably too perplexed over who shit in his pants to remember even talking to you.

Sounds exactly like what happened to my grandfather. He went from being a a quick witted, intelligent and athletic man (he could ride a bicycle backwards while sitting on the handlebars into his 70s amongst other things) to a man who could not recognize himself in the mirror in a matter of a year. And he was dead less than a year after that. A fucking horrible way to go.

my grandma went out that way,but, unfortunately it dragged out over 6 or 7 years. actually, you could say it was longer than that as she was getting kind of dopey the preceeding 10 years as well.

gotta be the most horrible way to go, especially for the family.
